Wrote Jolene:

“I thought the writing was brilliant by JKR for The Cukoo’s Calling. I was sure I knew who the murderer was and then was pleasantly surprised and astounded when I was wrong. JKR’s use of misdirection in the HP books definitely worked in this novel too. Not only was there a murder mystery to keep me turning the pages but other mysteries that JKR has left unsolved for future books. For example, Robin’s background and her future with Matthew, Strike’s family history and war experiences, and the one I am most curious about is Brian Mathers who sends death threats weekly to Strike. Answers to all of these mysteries will keep me waiting anxiously for the next book in the series.”

And Josh said:

“Rowling has successfully managed to break away from Potter by providing a strong introduction to her new principal characters of Robin and Strike. I found it reads similarly to other contemporary crime authors and definitely picks up pace in the second half. One slight annoyance was that, I think to mark this an adult novel, there is a surfeit of profanity beyond what was necessary to establish characters; which seemed to detract from the reading at times. In spite of this, she has created a gripping series for crime fans to look forward to continue reading.”

J.K. Rowling surprised the world on July 13 when she revealed she had written a new book called The Cuckoo’s Calling under a pseudonym and published it in April.
