With The Crown set to jump forward in time in season 3, Helena Bonham Carter has reportedly been tapped to play Princess Margaret.

Claire Foy’s successor for the next two seasons of The Crown has already been secured and now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so has Vanessa Kirby’s.

Helena Bonham Carter is close to finalizing a deal that will see her take over the role of Princess Margaret for season 3 and 4 of the royal drama.

The second season, which is both Foy and Kirby’s last in their respective roles, hit Netflix on December 8, 2017. Season 2 saw Margaret married to the Earl of Snowdon, as played by Matthew Goode, and concluded with the birth of their first child. Though the couple remained married for 16 years, it was particularly tumultuous, and resulted in several affairs on both sides. With the time jump, Bonham Carter will likely cover the years leading up to their eventual divorce.

Kirby had previously told The Hollywood reporter that she was envious of whoever got to step into her shoes next. “I’m just so excited about whoever gets to do it because they’ve definitely got the coolest stuff coming up,” Kirby said. “Bring on the drama! I would have loved to have done it. I absolutely love to do all the blazing rows and getting drunk and just all of it. But I suppose I was lucky enough to have two seasons, so I could be more grateful, really.”

The Crown has a planned six seasons, with each two-season period focusing on a different period in the lives of Queen Elizabeth and those around her. At the conclusion of season 4, we will see another change in cast, as the series jumps forward once again.

The first two seasons of The Crown are available to stream now on Netflix.
