Is Claire Foy the next Lisbeth Salander? The Crown actress has emerged as the frontrunner to take over the coveted lead role for The Girl in the Spider’s Web.

Oddly, it seems that Lisbeth Salander has become the female version of James Bond, with actresses vying to have their turn portraying Stieg Larsson’s iconic rogue hacker in the ‘Girl’ series.

First it was Noomi Rapace, then Roony Mara, and now it could be Claire Foy, who most recently starred as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix’s The Crown.

Variety reports that after meeting with “dozens of actresses,” Sony has zeroed in on Foy to headline The Girl in the Spider’s Web, which follows The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo in the Swedish thriller saga.

Continuing the James Bond comparisons, Daniel Craig’s Mikael Blomkvist will also need a replacement. Perhaps Idris Elba is available?

The Girl in the Spider’s Web will be directed by Don’t Breathe‘s Fede Alvarez, with the movie set for an October 19, 2018 release.
