Season 3 of The Crown will feel quite different from the first two with a whole new cast, and the show has just cast someone in a key new role.

Indeed, The Crown has officially found an actress to play Camilla Parker Bowles in the upcoming third season. Call the Midwife’s Emerald Fennell will be playing a younger version of the woman who would become the Duchess of Cornwall.

Entertainment Weekly was able to get a statement from Fennell on this iconic new role. Fennell told the outlet, “I’m absolutely over the moon, and completely terrified, to be joining so many hugely talented people on The Crown. I absolutely love Camilla, and am very grateful that my teenage years have well prepared me for playing a chain-smoking serial snogger with a pudding bowl haircut.”

While seasons 1 and 2 of The Crown focused more on the early years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, season 3 will jump forward in time to the 1970s, and will show us the story of Prince Charles (played by Ripper Street’s Josh O’Connor) first meeting his future wife. And if Fennell’s statement is any indication, she’ll certainly bring a great sense of fun to the show.

We’re so excited to see this new era on the show, and we can’t wait to see The Crown handles retelling the story of Queen Elizabeth II and the Windsor family as it travels into an era that audiences will only grow increasingly familiar with. Emerald Fennell is a terrific actress, and we know she’s going to bring something truly special to the show and in her portrayal of Camilla Parker Bowles.

Unfortunately, we won’t get to see season 3 of The Crown for a bit yet. Netflix hasn’t announced an official release date for the show due to production delays, but we can expect the new season to release in 2019.
