The Conspiracy of Us by Maggie Hall is an intense page turner filled with intrigue, lush settings and a dash of romance. This is a one sitting read because once you start it is impossible to not follow Avery on discovering the truth.

Synopsis

A fast-paced international escapade, laced with adrenaline, glamour, and romance — perfect for fans of Ally Carter.

Avery West’s newfound family can shut down Prada when they want to shop in peace, and can just as easily order a bombing when they want to start a war. Part of a powerful and dangerous secret society called the Circle, they believe Avery is the key to an ancient prophecy. Some want to use her as a pawn. Some want her dead.

To unravel the mystery putting her life in danger, Avery must follow a trail of clues from the monuments of Paris to the back alleys of Istanbul with two boys who work for the Circle — beautiful, volatile Stellan and mysterious, magnetic Jack. But as the clues expose a stunning conspiracy that might plunge the world into World War III, she discovers that both boys are hiding secrets of their own. Now she will have to choose not only between freedom and family — but between the boy who might help her save the world, and the one she’s falling in love with.

Book Review: ‘The Conspiracy of Us’ by Maggie Hall

The Conspiracy of Us is a fantastic read. The story introduces us to Avery West, a teen who has closed herself off from the people around because she is always moving. Avery’s mom has a job that requires her to move often and suddenly. After years of this Avery has decided it is better to not let anyone too close. Avery is an enjoyable main character. Seeing the world open up from her eyes pulls the reader into the story completely. Avery does make an occasional bad choice but she is only human.

The plot is intriguing. This is the first young adult novel I have read that introduces the history of Alexander the Great and the Diadochi. From the first few chapters the secrets in Avery’s life are apparent but the extent isn’t clear until the very end. Avery’s adventure takes us through Paris, Istanbul and even behind secret doors in the Louvre. Avery is joined on her adventure by Jack and Stellan, two boys working for the same cause in very different ways.

I can’t recommend The Conspiracy of Us enough. The story is filled with twists and emotion that make it hard to put down. For lovers of Ally Carter books and conspiracy theories this book is a must read.
