Although I’m sad to see the hilarious How to Date a Douchebag series come to an end, The Coaching Hours by Sara Ney is everything I could have wanted and more!

About ‘The Coaching Hours’ (How to Date a Douchebag #4) by Sara Ney:

THERE ARE NO DOUCHEBAGS IN THIS STORY.

Well, there are, but they’re not who this story is about.
This story is about me—the coach’s daughter.
When I moved to Iowa to live with my dad, the university’s take-no-prisoners wrestling coach, I thought transferring would be easy as pie—living with my father would be temporary, and he’d make sure his douchebag wrestlers left me alone.
Wrong on both counts.

ASSHOLES ALWAYS COME OUT OF THE WOODWORK WHEN THE STAKES ARE HIGH.

A bet is placed, and I’m on the table. After one humiliating night and too much alcohol, I find the last nice guy on campus. And when he offers to rent me his spare bedroom, I go all in. It’s time for the nice guy to finish first. Midnight chats and spilling my problems turn to lingering touches. Lingering touches turn to more.

And the ultimate good guy has the potential do more damage than any douchebags ever could.

‘The Coaching Hours’ (How to Date a Douchebag #4) by Sara Ney book review:

At this point in time, I think Sara Ney can do no wrong. I’ve been completely obsessed with this series since I first came across it and it seems like every book is better than the last. There’s something special about Sara’s unique ability to make me giggle, laugh out loud, and fall in love with her characters all at the same time.

At first, I thought this book was going to end up being all about the forbidden fruit, the coach’s daughter. But it was so much more than that. Anabelle Donnelly transfers to the school that her father coaches at, and goes into it a bit naïve at first. Of course, her father anticipated her getting some attention and swore the wrestlers off from her. That just made them want her that much more and a nasty bet was placed to get into her pants.

Anabelle is nobody’s fool, though. Although she might have been nice to the guys at first, when she finds out what they’re trying to do to her all bets are off. Her feelings are still hurt, though, and she ends up making friends with an unlikely ally — Elliot St. Charles.

“‘Anabelle. I’ve been wondering what your name was.’ When his smile disappears into his mug, I dip my head and stare down at my lap, fiddling with the fabric of my jeans, biting my own, stupid smile. Elliot’s silent, lazy scrutiny is doing bizaere things to my already quaking insides – plus he’s one of the good guys, which makes him even more attractive, if that’s even possible.”

With all of the douchebags that Anabelle has been dealing with since coming to the school, Elliot is naturally a breath of fresh air. They quickly go from friends, to roommates, and then something much much more.

The Coaching Hours is definitely a slow burn, and readers will be burning for these to make a move on each other. They’re so perfect for one another it’s obvious that they’re a match, but they’re both shy too. This leads to a lot of secretive glances, friendly touches, and basically driving each other crazy.

Once Elliot gets over his shy nature and does take a chance on having something more with Anabelle, they’re practically the perfect couple. Yet, there’s a big issue for them, Elliot’s impending graduation. He already had plans to leave state for Grad school before Anabelle ever came into the picture, and neither one of them is willing to risk his future for a shot at something serious.

“I don’t know what time it was when we both fell asleep, but at some point in the middle of the night, we gravitated together, something I’ve never done before when in bed with another human. I’m wrapped up like a pretzel. I don’t know when I rolled up beside him, or when my cheek found the space above his armpit, resting there…or when I threw my leg over his thigh, tucking it between his legs. Palm flattened out over his ribcage. His arm around me, pulling me in. When did we curl into each other? Does it even matter?”

Even the best laid plans don’t always go right. Elliot and Anabelle have to learn to deal with the curve balls thrown their way and lean on one another to get through it all. Elliot might be the nice guy, but he has all the power to crush Anabelle whether he knows it or not. I loved this spin on the series’ theme, and ate up every word in this book until I had finished it in one sitting. This book is simply per-fec-tion.

The Coaching Hours was a great way to wrap up the series, as sad as I am to see it go. Now it really feels complete and I was so glad to have gotten a chance to read Elliot’s story. I’m sure that I will be reading this one many times over while I wait for Sara Ney’s next series, Jock Hard!
