Shonda Rhimes is known for providing quality entertainment centered around strong, smart and complex women. Her latest drama, The Catch is no exception! Meet the four newest ladies of #TGIT.

As The Catch takes over the How to Get Away With Murder time slot and joins Shondaland’s Thursday lineup, Alice Vaughan is joining the ranks of Annalise Keating, Meredith Grey and Olivia Pope. She isn’t carrying the mantle alone though! Joining her in The Catch are three equally awesome ladies: Margot Bishop, Valerie Anderson and Sophie Novak. So who are they, and what can we expect from them going forward on The Catch?

Alice Vaughan

Who she is: Alice has the extremely boring title of LA’s top private investigator. Oh wait…that’s actually the coolest title ever! She runs a security firm with her best friend, Valerie, and likes to spend most of her time out in the field. Her world is turned upside down when she finds out her fiance, Ben, is a con artist and has been playing her the whole time. Mireille Enos is taking on the role of Alice. Her most recent resume includes The Killing and If I Stay.

Why we’re excited about her: Alice wasted exactly zero time after having her entire world shattered before dusting herself off and getting to work. She has a strong sense of pride and she isn’t going to take it lightly when someone makes a fool out of her. Alice definitely doesn’t need anybody to save her because she has every intention of cracking this case herself, though she is more than willing to accept help from her trusted team and friends.

Before the Ben thing, Alice was still showing every bit of the same strength. She flawlessly takes down criminals and loves doing it and she is also business savvy. Dealing with criminals all day everyday, you might expect her to be hardened and jaded. That is not at all the case! She is exceptionally light-hearted and friendly, an amazing best friend and a great teammate and leader. We can’t wait to see how she continues to deal with her betrayal and finds her way back to her joyful self all while she continues to operate as an elite private investigator.

Margot Bishop

Who she is: In the game of the investigators vs the investigated, Margot is the mastermind of the latter. She is also Ben’s loving(?) wife. Although she calls the shots in her band of pirates, she isn’t the one at the top of the food chain. There’s also a mysterious benefactor in the mix whom Margot answers to and clearly has a healthy fear of. Margot is played by Sonya Walger, who we know from Lost! Now all we need is a The Catch/The 100 crossover so Desmond and Penny can be reunited at last…it could work right?

Why we’re excited about her: You have to be pretty secure to pull the strings on your husbands engagement to another woman. Margot obviously has confidence coming out of just about everywhere and she’s got the brains and influence to back it up. You’d have to be extremely smart to lead a group of con artists as smooth as this one, and we’re excited to see how her mastermind brain works and what she’s able to pull off in the future.

While we never thought she was innocent (her being the ring leader of a team of con artists kind of gave that away), she gained about 100 points on the badass meter when her husband and their third partner in crime, Reggie, spoke oh-so-casually about the fact that she would and could have them killed. Nothing spices a marriage up quite like the ever present threat of murder! Speaking of that, we’re dying to see what her true feelings for Ben are and how she balances that with their high stakes “career.”

Valerie Anderson

Who she is: Valerie is Alice’s business partner and best friend. She focuses on the business side of Anderson/Vaughan so Alice is freed up to do what she does best. Valerie’s duties as a best friend used to include picking out wedding cakes, but her responsibilities have escalated slightly with Ben’s betrayal. Good thing she is more than ready to step up to the plate. Valerie is portrayed by the lovely Rose Rollins.

Why we’re excited about her: Val is the best friend that everyone wants to have. We don’t think anyone would say no to a business meeting doubling as a wedding cake tasting. Are we wrong? Her support and love for Alice is boundless to the point where she encourages her to leave their business behind to elope with Ben (obviously before the whole con thing)! We look forward to learning more about their friendship escapades in the past, and seeing how they grow together in the future.

That being said, Valerie isn’t just Alice’s other half! We definitely haven’t even seen the beginning of what Valerie is capable of yet, and we can’t wait to see what else is going on in her life and what else she brings to the table besides her supreme gal pal skills and business acumen.

Sophie Novak

Who she is: Sophie is the in-house legal counsel and resident hacker for Anderson/Vaughan…no big deal or anything. She used to (or still does) work for Anonymous so she has some pretty serious tech skills. Elvy Yost brings Sophie to life in The Catch.

Why we’re excited about her: Sophie is both snarky and sweet, all though most of her snark is reserved for her team member, Danny. Being an employee of Anonymous is a pretty serious credential to have on your resume and it will bring a whole new dynamic to the show. It will be so cool to see how she balances being a lawyer with the less than legal activities she’ll be taking care of with her skills.

We’ve seen how smart the con artists are and Sophie made conning them back look way too easy. We definitely wouldn’t want to get on her bad side. Besides everything her dual job titles will bring to the show, we’re excited to see the fun dynamic she brings to the group and we want to see more of her life outside of the office (if she has time for one).
