The Catch season 1, episode 7, “The Ringer,” took a while to heat up, but in the end, Margot’s world went up in flames.

Most of this episode was surprisingly dull, especially considering we’re getting quite late in the season. There was too much focus on the case of the week, and the con didn’t really catch my interest. However, the last two minutes of The Catch season 1, episode 7, made up for any lost time, and definitely set us up well for an amazing next episode.

The episode started off with Ben and Alice having a much needed heart to heart. Somehow, between all the cons and sex, they’ve never really had much time to talk about what happened between them. Ben made it clear that he was still available to run away with Alice, but Alice is smart enough to know that the people Ben works with wouldn’t exactly take their departure amicably.

Overall, I was so much happier with Alice’s behavior in The Catch season 1, episode 7, than in recent episodes. She has been such a pushover lately when it comes to Ben, stooping to actually helping him with his cons, and she finally regained her power. Even when Ben offered her the wedding that he owed her, and that I’m sure she still desperately wants, she acknowledged that the current situation isn’t good for her. If Ben wants to be with her, he’s just going to have to learn to be a law abiding citizen. What a drag!

Alice actually hatches a pretty good plan with Val and Dao, who totally aren’t a thing according to Val (sure, keep telling yourself that, girl). She made JD aware of the larger group that Ben works for, so now JD barely cares about Ben’s petty crimes. Even though I still don’t trust JD, he would definitely earn some points with me if he took out Reese and his group.

Unfortunately, if the Kensington family group goes down, that might mean that the sweet, innocent, Margot will go down with it. Okay, so she’s neither of those things, but she did show a slightly softer side in this episode. You can’t really blame her for that, since her whole life basically fell apart at the end.

The Catch season 1, episode 7, showcased Margot at her best, but also delivered some of her lowest moments. Let’s start with the best. This is the girl that you’re going to want to have with you on your next Vegas trip, because she can run a poker game with her eyes closed. The cons that she helms have such a strange beauty to them. She really puts the artist back in con artist!

We really got a glimpse at the family that Ben, Margot, and Reggie have built together in this episode. As Ben put it, those two are his Val and Danny. It was nice to see Ben really stand up for Margot with both Alice and Reese. He respects her, cares for her, and recognizes that she deserves more than she’s been offered by her biological family.

When we first met the con artists, I surmised that their’s was a relationship built, and maintained, primarily out of fear. Now, we’ve been shown that it is actually built out of a deep trust, respect and love between all three parties. Their sweet moments in The Catch season 1, episode 7, only made Margot’s discovery more crushing. Since Reese found out about Alice, we knew it was only a matter of time before Margot found out, and apparently, time is up.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised by Margot’s reaction. From what we’ve heard about her, I would have expected the episode to end with a knock on Alice’s door, followed by a gun pointed in her face. However, Queen Margot showed much more restraint, even though she was obviously hurt by the revelation.

My favorite scene of the whole episode was when we saw her pretending to be Alice’s psychologist! She could simply be trying to gain more information, or she could have something much bigger in mind, but either way, I can’t wait to see these two women interact.

Back to the bearer of bad news, Reese was back to his level-headed brand of craziness in The Catch season 1, episode 7. He definitely had me fooled into thinking he was a drunken mess, but unfortunately, he turned things around and delivered yet another crushing blow to Margot. He’s planning to expand to North America, which is supposed to be her territory, using a chain of hotels as a front for his operations.

All siblings have their arguments, but these two really bring it to a new level. We haven’t seen much love between them yet, but maybe now that they’ve made Alice Vaughan their common enemy, we’ll see them interact with a little less violence towards one another. It’s interesting that Reese seems to care about Ben so much more than he cares about Margot. He knows Ben is the one that betrayed him, yet he still wants him to be his partner again.

On the Anderson Vaughan Investigations side of things, Valerie is still the best friend ever, and Sophie and Danny are still low-key flirting, so nothing new or exciting there. We’re running out of time in The Catch season 1, for these characters to do something substantial, so hopefully we see more of them next week!
