Up until now, Ben and Margot have been in control of their own operation. In The Catch season 1, episode 6, the power will shift to the mysterious benefactor.
The looming presence of the benefactor has definitely been an influencing factor on The Catch so far, but he will finally appear in the upcoming episode, which is aptly titled, “The Benefactor.” In the episode trailer, it looks like he is coming to collect the bracelet that Margot’s Angels successfully stole (unfortunately, Alice was able to do the same), but he could shake up a lot more than the bracelet heist.

Right now, Margot is by far the most intimidating character on The Catch. She is the clear leader of the con artists, and the threat of her discovering that Ben is still seeing Alice is a big source of tension. Reggie keeps reminding us that Margot would have no qualms about taking both of their lives, so we know it wouldn’t be good for either of them if she knew the truth.
Although Margot is menacing, she is manageable. She trusts Ben and has true feelings for him. That, combined with the fact that he knows her so completely, allows him to sneak around successfully. It’s not only his secret relationship with Alice that he’s hiding. He is also the reason that they haven’t been able to pay the benefactor yet. The first time they acquired the money, he gave it away, and now, Alice is in possession of the lavish bracelet that was supposed to save them.
Felicity has already come to collect the money from Margot’s Angels. Her presence was intimidating at first, but Margot quickly took care of business, neutralizing that threat. Margot herself seems to be afraid of the benefactor, so it’s doubtful that she’ll be able to manipulate him so easily!
In The Catch season 1, episode 5, we learned that the benefactor is not running a one man operation, but actually, a company which is a powerful, many-headed beast. Unlike Margot, who merely has Reggie as a henchman, the benefactor could have eyes everywhere.
Sneaking around with Alice won’t be quite as simple for Ben with the benefactor around, which is a problem because he has a very important reason to see her! This could end up putting them both in a lot of danger, and they definitely don’t look overly safe in the episode trailer.
If the benefactor finds out what Ben has been up to, it could unravel everything. I’m guessing the benefactor doesn’t let many people handle his money, so if he doesn’t trust Ben, he may end up looking for a new job, at the very best. Things will get especially bad if the benefactor expresses any concerns to Miss Margot.
On the bright side, the benefactor’s presence will almost definitely lead to us discovering more about Margot’s past. Felicity has given us some glimpses of it, but hopefully the benefactor will paint a clearer picture of who our con queen has been, and how she got involved in this particular career path.
