Little Brown announced today that J.K. Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy will be published as a paperback this July. A new cover was revealed for the release.

The cover depicts a row of actual homes as well as a quote from a review by Time Magazine.

Update: The United Kingdom is getting a cover different from the one in the United States…

Rowling’s most recent Q&A and signing to promote the release of her first post-Potter novel was only earlier this month. There, she unveiled that she’d never write a Harry Potter prequel and dished on her first kiss.

The Casual Vacancy is a story of small-town politics. Following the death of Barry Fairbrother, “the empty seat left by Barry on the parish council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen,” reads the official synopsis. “Who will triumph in an election fraught with passion, duplicity, and unexpected revelations?”

You can pre-order The Casual Vacancy paperback on Amazon now for only $9.99.

We hope to see Rowling out on another tour to promote the paperback over the summer. Each of her tour stops has been an exciting opportunity for fans to finally meet the beloved author. She has said at several of these events that her next book is likely for children around the age of eight years old.
