The Scandinavian drama series The Bridge (Broen) has seen a lot of international success, and now Diane Kruger will star in an American remake on FX.

TV Line has learned that FX has greenlit the pilot project, which will see Kruger take the lead role as an American detective who must work with a detective from Mexico in order to hunt down a serial killer working on both sides of the border.

The plot of this is similar to that of the original The Bridge, which follows Danish and Swedish detectives as they work to solve a crime which happened on the bridge between Denmark and Sweden.

While this original version of The Bridge is already airing in the UK, it seems that once again US audiences will see a new version of the story retold in English with a more geographically relevant plot, rather than the original version with subtitles. This is the same approach as was taken with The Killing, which was a remake of the Danish series Forbrydelsen.

While The Killing was axed by AMC following its disappointing second season, the network has recently decided to bring it back for a third season after all. The story will pick up a year after the events of last season, and AMC is hoping to breathe new life into the dark mystery series.

Interestingly, this is the second remake of The Bridge to be announced this year. Two weeks ago, we reported that Sky Atlantic has ordered a remake titled The Tunnel, which sees the inciting incident take place in the tunnel between England and France. Clémence Poésy, Stephen Dillane and Angel Coulby are among the actors signed on to star in this series.

Apparently, bilingualism and international murder mysteries are all the rage these days.

Which of the remakes of Broen are you most excited for? Or do you prefer the original?
