Everything comes down to this moment. The final book in Rick Riordan’s Heroes of Olympus series, The Blood of Olympus, is now available for your reading pleasure.

Where we left off in ‘House of Hades’

The previous book in the series, House of Hades, left our favorite heroes in dire circumstances, with plenty of hard decisions to make.

Percy and Annabeth found themselves in Tartarus, thanks to the actions of Arachne at the end of Mark of Athena. Their quest was to get to the other side, the Doors of Death, and close them in order to keep all the trapped monsters from escaping. Along the way, they encounter plenty of foes, some of which become friends.

Meanwhile, Hazel, Leo, Frank, Piper, Jason, and Nico are on The Argo II, trying to get to the other side of the Doors of Death in order to save their friends and close the entrance from the mortal side. But it’s not all smooth sailing. Gaea is doing everything she can in her current state to keep them from their goal.

At the same time, Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter are nearly at blows, thanks at least in part to the sneaky Octavian. In order to maintain peace, Reyna must deliver the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood and keep the two sides from going to war.

The gang is all reunited on the other side, and Nico, Coach Hedge, and Reyna head out to deliver the Athena Parthenos to Camp Half-Blood and halt the brewing battle. The others will confront Gaea and her henchmen, hoping to finally defeat the menacing earth goddess.

What we can expect from ‘Blood of Olympus’

Blood of Olympus will wrap up the Heroes of Olympus series, and be the final Percy Jackson book — at least for now. Riordan will be working diligently on his Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series about Norse mythology, so who knows if or when we’ll be seeing Percy and his friends again.

But let’s not rush into things just yet. We have plenty of time to read, re-read, and re-re-read Blood of Olympus in order to squeeze every last ounce of Percy goodness from it’s pages.

Blood of Olympus will give us the final showdown between our heroes and Gaea, pitting her giants against the demigods. They need to stop her before the Feast of Spes, when she’ll sacrifice two demigods in Athens in order to complete the ceremony that will allow her to fully wake.

But that’s not all that’s on their plate. Octavian is closer than ever to bringing Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter to war, and the gods — who are still having trouble deciding between their Greek and Roman personalities — aren’t going to be much help. So it’s up to Percy, Annabeth, Piper, Jason, Hazel, Frank, Leo, Nico, and any other allies they can gather to stop the earth from waking up and destroying everything.
