The cover and release date have been revealed for the final installment of Rae Carson’s gripping trilogy, The Girl of Fire and Thorns.

Author Rae Carson announced today on her website that The Bitter Kingdom, the third part of The Girl of Fire and Thorns, will be released on Aug. 27 of this year. Carson also simultaneously shared the icicle-y cover, which you can check out right here.

The Girl of Fire and Thorns trilogy follows Elisa, a sheltered but fiercely intelligent princess who bears a divine Godstone in her navel. The preceding novels, The Girl of Fire and Thorns and The Crown of Embers, have followed Elisa’s navigation through the harsh political and geographic terrain of her adopted country Joya d’Arena, as well as her struggle to understand both herself and the role she must play as God’s chosen bearer.

A summary for The Bitter Kingdom has not yet been released, but Carson (gleefully) hints that “Things get CrAzY in book 3. Notice the ICE and SNOW and PINE TREES? Those are not-subtle hints about what happens.”

To ease the wait until the release of The Bitter Kingdom, Carson will digitally release a short story called The Shattered Mountain on March 26. Set in the world of The Girl of Fire and Thorns, the story will follow Mara, Elisa’s future friend and handmaiden, in the chaotic days before Elisa came into the lives of Mara’s band of desperate desert rebels.
