A character’s mother may be making an unprecedented appearance on The Big Bang Theory later this year.

Mommy issues are pretty much a universal theme among the geeks and girls of The Big Bang Theory, and now Bernadette seems to be joining the club.

EW has shared the news that an upcoming episode this season will finally introduce us to Mrs. Rostenkowski-Wolowitz’s mother herself. Though an actress has not yet been cast for the role, it will be interesting to see how The Big Bang Theory chooses to portray Bernadette’s mom. Mrs. Rostenkowski is a subject that the show has considered before, as it has been speculated that she was meant to appear at Howard and Bernadette’s wedding in the finale of season 5. The show’s writers supposedly delayed her appearance to a future date when the character would not be overshadowed by the major story development.

It will also be exciting to see how The Big Bang Theory contrasts Mrs. Rostenkowski with Howard’s legendary Ma Wolowitz. Though Mrs. Wolowitz has never been seen on the show, her presence is powerfully felt thanks to clever writing and the offscreen voice provided by Carol Ann Susi. Presumably, Bernadette’s mother will be similar to her daughter – slight, sweetly-spoken and Catholic – which we anticipate will work to great comic effect contrasted with the very fat, very loud, and very Jewish Mrs. Wolowitz.
