CBS has officially announced its plans for The Big Bang Theory spinoff, a prequel series inventively titled Young Sheldon.

As the title suggests, Young Sheldon will tell the story of Sheldon Cooper’s oddball childhood. Fans will be re-introduced to the future theoretical physicist at age nine, as the socially-inept genius prematurely starts high school in East Texas.

Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies) will take on the role of Sheldon. Jim Parsons, who originated the role on The Big Bang Theory, will narrate his younger self’s misadventures from the future.

Parsons will also serve as an executive producer on Young Sheldon. Chuck Lorre and Steve Molaro of The Big Bang Theory will also executive produce.

Jon Favreau (Iron Man) will direct the pilot episode. Young Sheldon will also star Zoe Perry as Mrs. Cooper, along with Lance Barber, Raegan Revord and Montana Jordan.

Young Sheldon is slated for broadcast in the 2017-2018 season.
