A little Sheldon Cooper has been cast in CBS’ Big Bang Theory prequel spinoff.

Nine-year-old Iain Armitage will take on the role of Sheldon Cooper, TVLine reports. CBS has yet to confirm the casting.

The spinoff is reportedly set during Sheldon’s quirky childhood as a scientific genius in the devout and doughy heart of Texas. The Big Bang Theory showrunner Steve Molaro and creator Chuck Lorre will serve as executive producers. Jim Parsons, who has won multiple Emmy awards for his performance as Sheldon in his adult form, will also executive produce.

Iain Armitage can currently be seen on HBO’s Big Little Lies, playing the son of Shailene Woodley’s character. Armitage has also made himself known in Broadway circles, as the young theater enthusiast has been providing theatrical reviews on his YouTube channel for several years.

In addition to Armitage, actress Zoe Perry is rumored to have been cast as Sheldon’s mother in the Big Bang Theory spinoff. Perry is the daughter of Laurie Metcalf, who memorably plays Mrs. Cooper on The Big Bang Theory.
