The gang dealt with a difficult doctor on The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 7. Check out our recap and share your thoughts on “The Misinterpretation Agitation.”

Lean in

Bernadette tells Amy and Penny that she will be in a magazine spread on sexy female scientists. Amy disapproves, thinking that such articles objectify women, but Penny thinks it’s okay for women to use their sexuality in the workplace. Her own good looks have come in handy in her new job as a pharmaceutical saleswoman.

Flowers and truth

Sheldon lets a man holding flowers into the building. He’s a doctor calling on a woman who makes sales calls to his office. Sheldon puts two and two together when the man knocks on Penny’s door.

Sheldon eventually tells Leonard, who confronts the doctor. Apparently Penny winked at the guy, and now he wants to have her babies or something. Leonard says he is Penny’s fiance, but the doctor has never seen her wear an engagement ring.

The doctor is upset, so Sheldon brings him to the apartment for a hot beverage.

Lean out

Bernadette tells Amy that the photo shoot was canceled. Amy admits that she complained to the editors about the article being objectifying, and helped get it canceled.

Bernadette is furious, and accuses Amy of being jealous. She claims that Amy doesn’t want anyone else to express their sexuality, as no one wants her to express hers. Bernadette immediately knows she has crossed the line, but Amy leaves in anger.

A urological advantage

Sheldon, Leonard, Raj, and Howard are impressed to learn that the doctor is a collector of geek memorabilia. As the “urologist to the stars,” he has many exclusive items.

Penny walks in and is shocked to see the doctor. Penny apologizes and says she didn’t mean to flirt with him.

Outside, Penny admits to Leonard that she hides her ring while on sales calls. She wants the doctor to leave, so the guys head off to his house to see his collection.

House call

The doctor’s house is a “fortress of solitude” packed full of geek memorabilia — an original Terminator, a Robocop, a Donkey Kong arcade game, and much more. Howard is unironically amused to hear that the doctor still lives with his mother.

The Doctor asks Sheldon if he thinks Penny and Leonard will last, and quickly leaves when Sheldon intimates it may not. Later, Leonard discovers that they are locked into the basement.

Fickle love

The doctor, holding more flowers, heads up the stairs with Amy. He quickly falls in love with her, and both Amy and Penny are shocked when he knocks on Penny’s door and says they should just be friends.

Penny gives him tea, and tries to talk him out of following women. Leonard calls and is like, “We’re trapped in this guy’s basement!” The girls march the doctor back to his house to free their boyfriends, picking up a remorseful Bernadette on the way.

Penny, Amy, Bernadette, and the doctor arrive to free the guys, but they are too occupied by Leonard’s personal-best game of Donkey Kong to leave.
