Podcasts, cult films, lost brothers, and forts! There is something for everyone in tonight’s The Big Bang Theory, season 8, episode 20.

It’s not Serial, but Wil Wheaton’s podcast makes an appearance on tonight’s episode of The Big Bang Theory.

But first the university cafeteria becomes the arena for the greatest debate amongst millennials: GIF as in gift or GIF as in Jiffy? Leonard leans on the former, while Raj supports the latter, but Sheldon has a more pressing problem so the debate becomes moot. Sheldon Cooper, even in his adult years, finds himself not invited to the sleepover.

The guys assure him that it was not Sheldon’s scientific merits that kept him for attending a weekend symposium. Date night is dampened by Sheldon’s grumpy mood as he pushes the topic under the microscope for him and Amy to pick and poke at. Evolution favors those who are taken in and made part of a group, but Sheldon has evolved enough to acknowledge that evolution is dumb. When a print out of a more jolly Sheldon fails to lighten the mood, Amy suggests that the two build a fort.

Serial Ape-ist 2: Monkey See, Monkey Kill is a cult hit! Wil Wheaton invites Penny to join him on his live podcast where callers rave about the movie. One special caller, Kevin Smith, director of cult classics such as Clerks, and Clerks 2, suggests that Penny come read for a new project he is working on, Clerks 3! But Leonard isn’t exactly on board with Penny considering taking another shot at acting.

Howard’s childhood home is nearly transferred to him and Bernadette, as long as the signature from his father comes through on the title. But a ring from the door opens up one more hoop for Howard to jump through. Josh Wolowitz, son of Sam and half brother of Howard, arrives after hearing that someone was trying to contact his father about a house. Howard politely invites him in and leaves Josh to field questions about his study of Oceanography and Finding Nemo, and his intentions with Howard’s organs. After Raj vets him as a safe alliance, he tries to get a read on how Howard is handling the news.

Things are going equally as well at Penny’s apartment, where the live show is getting an entertaining hour as Penny and Leonard have it out. Dismissing Kevin Smith, Leonard tries to convince Penny that her stable income is not a life change to just throw away for a part. And Penny understands, it is not like she makes twice as much money as Leonard and has taken steps to diversify her portfolio in stocks and bonds. But wait a minute, she has!

The roles have changed drastically from the days when Leonard and Sheldon paid for her wifi and helped with the rent. And they may change again after Leonard’s investment in school pays off. But for now, it should be fine for Penny to take an afternoon off and try for a part. Game, set, match, Penny.

With a quick Google search for childhood fun and a string of Christmas lights, Fort Cozy McBlanket is complete. Retroactively checking off a childhood milestone, Sheldon and Amy consider checking off a major step for their future — their first sleepover. Amy’s stashed toothbrush and pajamas do little to deter Sheldon, since his has great appreciation for preparedness.

Just as Howard contemplates sending Josh away, he hears Josh’s excitement over having a brother who went to space. And once Howard gets talking about space, it is only a matter of time before he moves on to the magic.

Leonard returns home and Sheldon encourages him to request admission to the fort. But it is too nice to turn him away and he invites him in. So long as he doesn’t sit in his spot.
