Penny debuts her new ‘do and Sheldon is dumbfounded in still photos from The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 1!

The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 1 is still a few weeks away, but new still photos from the premiere episode offer an exciting taste of what’s to come.

The stills illustrate that Sheldon’s rail-riding summer will to an undignified end in “The Locomotion Interruption,” the first of two new episodes airing on Monday, Sept. 22. Meanwhile, Penny will find herself in an unusually profitable place, and Howard has issues with his mother’s new caretaker.

The stills make it clear that while Sheldon may have had some good times off on his own, the gravy train has come to an end. (Literally.)

It’s also neat to get a look at Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting’s new haircut, which is a rather sophisticated change for her character. But since Penny’s own financial status may be changing soon, perhaps the new look is perfectly appropriate.

The official synopsis for The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 1 offers more context for the stills.

“Leonard and Amy take an unexpected road trip to Arizona to pick up Sheldon,” CBS says. “Meanwhile, Penny interviews for a job at Bernadette’s company, and Howard is weirded out by Stuart’s relationship with Mrs. Wolowitz.”

The Big Bang Theory season 8, episode 2, airing immediately after “The Locomotion Interruption,” is titled “The Junior Professor Solution.” According to the network, new opportunities will have an unexpected impact on more than one relationship.

“When Sheldon is forced to teach a class,” the synopsis says, “Howard surprises everyone by taking it. Meanwhile, the tension between Penny and Bernadette gives Amy a chance to play both sides.”

The Big Bang Theory season 8, episodes 1 and 2, will premiere on Monday, Sept. 22 at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
