Here’s what happened on The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 22:

Bad news

Sheldon reminds the gang about the approaching Star Wars Day. Later, Leonard comes into Sheldon’s room, and tells him that Arthur Jeffries – Professor Proton – passed away. He hugs Sheldon, who says he is fine, and is just upset that the funeral is on Star Wars Day.

Gungan rejection

On Star Wars Day, Raj and Howard make an intergalactic breakfast. After Penny and Leonard leave for the funeral, Sheldon starts the Star Wars marathon with The Phantom Menace, though the guys want to skip it. Sheldon overreacts to the idea, and storms off, though Howard and Raj offer their support by starting with episode 4.

Origin story

Amy and Bernadette bake and decorate a Death Star cake for the boys; the round cake then falls off the table. They discuss how they got into science while decorating the next cake. Bernadette was trying to make herself taller, while Amy found biology through researching what girl scouts and whores do.

Maybe yes, maybe no

At the funeral, Penny admits that she has never been to a funeral before. She really liked Professor Proton, but finds it hard to cry. Leonard says that Proton was a childhood hero, and starts to cry remembering working with him. Penny joins in his sobbing.

After the funeral, they discuss life, regrets, and Klingon. Leonard says he regrets not saying yes to Penny’s marriage proposal; she says it wasn’t the right time, and not to propose now. But when they realize that Leonard has two rejected proposals to Penny’s one, she proposes to even the score. Leonard leaves her hanging on her rejection, teasing her on the drive home.

Far, far away

In his room, Sheldon falls asleep and dreams that Professor Proton comes to visit. Proton is cool with being dead. Sheldon says that he is Sheldon’s Obi-Wan, who has come to Sheldon in spirit form to give him advice.

Professor Proton suddenly finds himself dressed in Jedi robes; he’s confused, but likes the lightsaber.

They then wind up on Dagobah, and Sheldon waits for helpful advice from Proton. Proton asks Sheldon if he is the first person Sheldon has lost, but Sheldon lost eleven Doctor Whos, his grandfather, his dad, and now Professor Proton. “It’s like all the men I’ve looked up to have gone away,” he says, sadly.

Professor Proton says it’s okay to be sad, and he should appreciate the people he still has.

More powerful than you can possibly imagine/h4>

Leonard wakes Sheldon up, and they discuss the funeral. Sheldon reaches over and gives Leonard a big hug. Sheldon plans to continue the Star Wars Day marathon with the movies all over again.

During the marathon, Amy and Bernadette come in with the cake. Bernadette is dismayed to learn that the movie marathon has just begun.

Later, the gang falls asleep watching the movies. Professor Proton is still there, saying unhappily that he is there whenever Sheldon needs him. Professor Proton points out that Sheldon may be wasting his time by watching, and then dreaming about Star Wars, but Sheldon is cool with it.
