Sheldon got an eyeful and an earful in The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 18. Check out our recap and share your thoughts on “The Mommy Observation”!

Here’s what happened in The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 18:

Dead man talking

The gang eats dinner, recounting how well Howard and Sheldon are doing in Houston. Stewart comes over, starts coughing and collapses.

“He’s been murdered by someone in this room!” Raj cries happily. Stuart’s “death” is the kickoff for his latest Murder Mystery Dinner. Yay!

The rest of the group is resistant, especially when they learn that they will play themselves. Raj hands out envelopes with information. Raj admits that his desire to make the gang play games is because he used to be fat and lonely… which turns out to be a lie.

Fortune yellers

Bernadette finds the first clue – a coffee receipt from the future. (Penny collects clues in the form of beer from the fridge.) He sends them through time with flashing lights and music, as apparently one member of the gang went back in time to kill Stuart.

The group reads Raj’s future cards for them. Leonard is upset at the implication that he and Penny might drift apart, which leads them to realize that they might value their careers over their relationship.

Leonard and Penny start to argue, but from his prone position on the floor floor, Stewart says that he thinks they will stay together. He says they are the best couple he knows, and they make each other better. “Now I feel bad for murdering you!” Penny gushes, ruining the game.

It’s a date

As the gang cleans up, Raj broods in Sheldon’s spot. Bernadette says that she hopes that in 20 years they are all still friends. Leonard suggests meeting in front of the building in 20 years to have dinner, no matter whether or not they are friends.

Twenty years later, only Stuart shows up.

Sheldon’s mom has got it goin’ on

In Houston, Howard drives Leonard to his mom’s house. They pick up flowers and pie, which Sheldon holds onto… until he peers through the window and bolts back to the car. “I saw my mommy with a naked man!” he cries, “And she was trying to be a mommy again!”

As if the image weren’t disturbing enough.

Sheldon recovers at a bar with Howard. Howard tells him not to say anything to his mother about the incident, but Sheldon wants to tell his mother he’ll never forgive her. Howard suggests it might not be his business, but Sheldon refutes that argument with the word genitals.

Bigger in Texas

Sheldon returns home and confronts his mom about what he saw. Angered at being called a pervert by her son, Mrs. Cooper sends Sheldon to his room, even though he is a fully grown, professional scientist with the moral high ground.

Howard comes in and tells Sheldon about the time his own mom started dating someone, his anxiety about which came out viciously in his Bar Mitzvah speech. Mrs. Wolowitz and the guy broke up, and Howard feels guilty.

“You may not want to get in the way of your mother’s happiness,” Howard says. Sheldon unhappily muses that he does love his mother, in spite of her fornicating tendencies.

The talk

Sheldon tells his mom that this is especially difficult for him because of the hypocrisy of Mrs. Cooper sleeping with a man out of marriage, in spite of her Christian faith. Mrs. Cooper agrees, and says she’s struggling with it, but she isn’t perfect. Sheldon then starts to tell his mother about condoms, and it’s awkward.
