Penny attempts to emulate Meryl Streep – sort of – in a new clip from The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 17.

A new sneak peek has been released from The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 17, which previews Penny making a decision that proves unpopular with Leonard. The upcoming episode, titled “The Friendship Turbulence,” will focus primarily on Howard’s attempts to improve his relationship with Sheldon after a nasty spat between Dr. Cooper and the engineer.

The clip released from “The Friendship Turbulence” highlights a tough decision that will impact Penny’s perpetually-stalled career as an actress.

Though Leonard (very subtly) encourages his girlfriend to take an undignified role in a new movie, Penny resists. The question, “What Would Meryl Streep Do?” arises, and Raj provides the obvious answer – Ms. Streep would be amazing. Leonard’s dig at Penny unsurprisingly leads to Sheldon insulting Howard, and the fight that brings turbulence to the aforementioned friendship presumably begins.

Calling Howard Hawkeye, Sheldon? We are torn between horror and admiration.

For a closer look at the way both Howard and Sheldon cope with turbulence (and a peek at Amy’s dashing turn as Cyrano de Bergarac), check out the promo and still photos from The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 17.

The official synopsis for “The Friendship Turbulence” offers a broader view of Thursday night’s new episode.

After the insults fly, Bernadette tries to broker the peace between Wolowitz and Sheldon. Meanwhile, Penny is offered an embarrassing movie role and Raj asks Amy to write to a woman on his behalf.

No matter what happens, it definitely looks like no good deed will go unpunished in “The Friendship Turbulence.”

The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 17, “The Friendship Turbulence,” will air tomorrow night at 8:00 p.m. on CBS.
