The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 1 and 2 aired tonight on CBS! Check out our recap and tell us what you thought of the super-sized premiere.

The Big Bang Theory returned from its summer hiatus tonight with season 7, episodes 1 and 2, “The Hofstadter Insufficiency” and “The Deception Verification.”

The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 1, “The Hofstadter Insufficiency,” dealt largely with Sheldon and Amy working through Leonard’s absence. With the beloved boyfriend and roommate having a grand time as he sails the North Sea doing research for Stephen Hawking, Amy and Sheldon are left to their own bonding devices. Secrets are revealed (in Penny’s case, quite revealing secrets) and the Soft Kitty duo wind up in an adorable embrace.

Meanwhile, Raj grieves over his terminated relationship with Lucy, and projects awkward feelings onto the long-suffering Ms. Davis (Regina King). Amy and Bernadette continue the awkwardness while discussing their relationships at a conference, culminating in the realization that their taste in mates might not be as different as they had thought!

In The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 2, “The Deception Verification,” Leonard returns early from his four-month-long expedition on the North Sea – but tells Penny not to tell Sheldon. Hiding Leonard’s presence proves tricky for Penny, as Sheldon has become accustomed to spending time with her. (And we all know how important Sheldon’s habits are!) The subterfuge leads Sheldon and Amy to suspect that Penny is cheating on Leonard; Sheldon is angry when he discovers the deception, and a long fight ensues. Eventually the situation is remedied by Howard’s new chemically-induced emotional skills.

Speaking of which, Howard and Raj spend most of the episode reacting to the unusual reason behind Howard’s recent weight-gain (no, he isn’t pregnant). Honestly, you have to see it to believe it.

The Big Bang Theory season 7, episode 3, “The Scavenger Vortex” airs on Oct. 13 at 8 pm on CBS.
