A new promo for this week’s episode of The Big Bang Theory suggests that Sheldon’s friendship with the super-scientist might not be proceeding as hypothesized.

CBS has released a preview for “The Extract Obliteration,” which (post-Sandy-coverage permitting) will air Nov. 1 at 8 p.m. The promo celebrates The Big Bang Theory‘s status as television’s top comedy (the show’s ratings have been exceptional) and previews the upcoming episode. Check out the promo below!

First things first: While Stephen Hawking definitely displayed a snarky edge when he and Sheldon met for the first time, we had never imagined the venerable scientist to have such a gleefully derisive laugh! Knowing Sheldon, he probably won’t rest until he can save face in front of his idol, so we can’t wait to see how he reacts to that bitingly mechanized taunt.

The promo was short on other information, but we’re very interested to see what would make Wolowitz and Raj bounce up and down in front of Leonard’s television like that. For further speculation on “The Extract Obliteration,” check out these recent promo photos.

The official episode summary says:

Sheldon’s relationship with Stephen Hawking is threatened over a game of “Words with Friends,” and Penny secretly enrolls in a class at the local college.

And the following week comes “The Habitation Configuration”:

Wolowitz struggles with moving out of his mother’s house. Meanwhile, Sheldon is caught in the middle of an argument between Amy and Wil Wheaton
