Bob Newhart won’t be guest starring on The Big Bang Theory until next week, but here is a sneak peek of his upcoming appearance in “The Proton Resurgence.” Minor spoilers ahead.

It looks like CBS is just as excited as fans for television legend Bob Newhart’s upcoming appearance on the great geeky comedy The Big Bang Theory. The Hollywood Reporter has revealed a sizable clip from Newhart’s episode, “The Proton Resurgence,” airing next Thursday, which shows the introduction of Newhart’s character to a star-struck Leonard, Sheldon, and Penny. Check out the hilarious sneak peek right here:

In “The Proton Resurgence,” Bob Newhart (of The Bob Newhart Show and Newhart, to name a few) will appear as Professor Proton, a TV figure from Sheldon and Leonard’s (dare we say overly-academic?) childhoods. The two kid-at-heart scientists are obviously giddy to meet such an important figure from their youth, but it looks like the poor Professor may not have signed up for Sheldon-level enthusiasm. Proton does seem fairly game, though – a still photo from “The Proton Resurgence” shows the good “doctor” decked out in his lab coat, in spite of Sheldon’s bug-eyed over-enthusiasm.

The official summary for next week’s episode says:

Sheldon and Leonard hire Professor Proton, the host of their favorite childhood TV show, to perform. Also, Howard and Bernadette run into trouble babysitting Raj’s dog.

And before next week’s Newhart-y shenanigans, tune in tonight for more of Sheldon’s frighteningly adorable eccentricities in “The Closure Alternative”:

Sheldon feels lost after one of his favorite TV shows gets canceled too soon and Amy tries to help him get over his compulsive need for closure. Meanwhile, Raj discovers a secret about his new love interest, Lucy.
