Warner Bros. has made major changes to its release schedule, giving new dates to many of its films, including The Batman and The Sopranos prequel.

According to Deadline, Matt Reeves’ The Batman will no longer open on June 25, 2021 next summer, but will instead premiere on October 1, 2021, in the slot made famous by the Batman’s biggest nemesis — DC’s R-rated film The Joker.

Director Matt Reeves recently said that about a quarter of the film has been shot, and that he is currently sifting through the footage. Once it’s safe to resume production, The Batman will continue to film in London, where production had stalled due to the coronavirus, rather than relocating.

The new date for the The Batman puts it in a place on the calendar where both Paramount and 20th Century Studios have as-yet untitled movies.

With the movement of the release date of The Batman comes a reshuffling of the rest of Warner Bros.’ DC comic book movie slate. The Flash will now debut a month earlier in 2022, on June 3 rather than July 1 of that year in a date that Warner had already reserved.

Shazam 2!, which was dated to debut on April 1, 2022, will now premiere on Nov. 4 of that year, now up against an untitled Disney live-action film.

In addition to the movement of The Batman and other DC movies, Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley movie starring Tom Hanks will now move a month later to Nov. 5, 2021, pitting it against Disney/Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

The Sopranos’ feature prequel, The Many Saints of Newark, moves from September 25 of this year to March 12, 2021.

Finally, the Will Smith drama King Richard has been moved a full year later, debuting on November 19, 2021 rather than its original date of November 25 of this year.
