The Banker, a new movie set to release in theaters and then on Apple TV, had its screening canceled by AFI Fest in an unprecedented move.

The Banker was set to be Apple TV’s first theatrical release, and it was slated to be the closing night film for AFI Fest. However, the movie has been pulled by Apple from that slot and replaced with the Netflix film Marriage Story.

As Deadline reports, the movie that stars Anthony Mackie, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicholas Hoult, and Nia Long was reportedly pulled from its closing night slot due to troubling (and as-yet-unspecified) allegations against one of the members of the Garrett family.

The Banker tells the true story of the Garrett family and is about financial literacy and social change, set in 1963 with Mackie playing the late Bernard Garrett Senior. While Deadline reports that the allegations do not tie into anyone featured in the movie, the choice was still made to pull the film.

Apple explained their choice to pull the film while they investigate the claims in a statement.

“We purchased The Banker earlier this year as we were moved by the film’s entertaining and educational story about social change and financial literacy. Last week some concerns surrounding the film were brought to our attention. We, along with the filmmakers, need some time to look into these matters and determine the best next steps. In light of this, we are no longer premiering The Banker at AFI Fest.”

Deadline also reported allegations surfaced to them against Bernard Garrett Jr., who has been doing a great deal of press and Q&As for the film. Apple decided on their own to pull back on The Banker while they further investigate the allegations.

It’s unclear what Apple plans to do regarding The Banker’s December 6 theatrical release, and the subsequent release of the film on Apple’s newly-christened streaming service. For now, anyway, it seems all AFI Fest attendees hoping to check out The Banker will have to wait a bit longer as Apple continues their investigation.
