There aren’t many people who have been lucky enough to merit a private screening of The Avengers, but some people, like Special Effects supervisor Chris Wells, need to see the rough cut in order to do their job. He is now under government protection after fans tied him to a chair and threatened to extract details from him. Not really, but he does have some very very nice things to say about the film.

In an interview with ComingSoon (via TotalFilm), SFX supervisor Chris Wells revealed not just information about the visual effects in The Avengers, but that the opening sequence to the film will blow people away.

“We’re doing what essentially boils down to the prelude of the movie,” he said. “There’s a whole intro that happens before you start even getting the titles and it’s pretty big. There’s nothing small in this movie.”

“I went to a screening with all the temporary visual effects and it was pretty fleshed out,” continues Wells. “It’s a long movie but it doesn’t feel like it. Out of all the comic book movies and franchises I’ve worked on, this is the best one I’ve seen so far.”

“I promise you it’s not going to be boring,” he says. “This thing has gone so big that Marvel are dwarfing their other franchises. For people who enjoy the comics and haven’t really liked the way some of the characters were treated in other movies, I think they’re going to be a little more appeased by this one.”

“Especially the Hulk,” he continues, enticingly. “They let the Hulk be Hulk and that’s great. He acts more like the comic book Hulk. It’s fun. My biggest problem with every single superhero movie is I don’t think the payoff ever matches the build up. This one definitely does.”

What do you think? Early descriptions from so called “early viewings” of the film have been quick to briefly describe the opening sequence (basically just saying that that it summarizes the first five movies in an easy to swallow sequence), but like always, any details should be taken with a grain of salt.
