The Americans almost broke Elizabeth (Keri Russell) and Stan (Noah Emmerich) in last week’s episode “Covert War” as they dealt with the fallout of the death of their mentor and friend respectively. Philip (Matthew Rhys) was shown as stepping up to the task for both his wife and his friend and proving his loyalty once more. It will be revealing to see how Elizabeth copes with the loss of her friend and lover in Gregory (Derek Luke) in “The Oath.”

In “The Oath” it looks like one of Elizabeth and Philip’s past missions will come back to haunt them as seen by the return of Tonye Patano as Viola as revealed in new episode stills. Furthermore it appears that Stan will become even more devoted to his cause, putting his marriage even more at risk as seen by the synopsis. “One of Elizabeth’s agents has key intel for sale, but she and Philip find themselves taking increasingly greater risks for what could well be a set-up. Meanwhile, Stan’s pursuit of Directorate S suddenly begins to yield unexpected results.”
