The official synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is being directed by Marc Webb, has just been released. In a press release it’s also been confirmed that Paul Giamatti and Colm Feore have officially joined the cast.

Just days ago it was reported that Paul Giamatti was in talks to take on the role of The Rhino, a villain that has been with the series since 1966. This came as somewhat strange news, given that we’ve already received confirmation that Jamie Foxx will take on the role of Electro. Add Daniel DeHaan joining the cast as Harry Osborn and we’re on our way to a massive list of villains, something that brought Spider-Man 3 down to its knees back in 2007.

The Rhino, for the uninitiated, originated as a “Soviet thug” by the name of Aleksei Mikhailovich Sytsevich. His super-suit gave him the ability to be super fast, super powerful, and with the inclusion of a huge horn on his head, super deadly.

Also confirmed in the press release was that the film will officially be called simply: The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Although it’s now been confirmed that Paul Giamatti and Colm Feore will join the sequel’s cast, the press release doesn’t shed any light as to which characters they may be playing. We imagine Giamatti will be The Rhino as rumored, and Feore could possibly be a perfect fit for Norman Osborn or he could end up being the huge fan favorite J. Jonah Jameson.
