The Amazing Race season 25, episode 9, “You’re Taking My Tan Off,” aired last night! Read our recap to find out which team got eliminated.
Route Marker
The teams were heading to Singapore where they have to take a Bumboat to Pulau Ubin Island to search for a marked coconut stand for their next clue. They all had flights booked from Malta to Paris, from there they could book a second flight to Singapore. Or they could chose not to take the flight to Paris and make their own way.
The surfers left first and booked a flight from Paris to Singapore that was scheduled to land at 6:40 am. The Dentists arrived at the travel agency and decided to just go with what the surfers had booked. The cyclists arrived and found an entirely new flight that landed at 6:00 am and booked that one. The dentists got all mad at the surfers for not figuring that out. The scientists and wrestlers also booked the 6:00 flight.
The cyclists, wrestlers, and scientists arrive at the coconut stand at the same time. The clue tells them about a fast forward that would have them riding a surf simulator for two minutes. Or they can go to Marina Bay Sands Hotel for the next clue.
At first, the cyclists don’t want to do the fast forward. But once they realize that no one else is going for it they change their tune.
The dentists and surfers get to the coconut stand and both decide that they do not want to risk going for the fast forward. But on the way to the Road Block, the surfers read the fast forward and realize that it’s probably right up their alley.
Fast Forward
Kym and Ali get started at the fast forward as Adam and Bethany make their way there. They have no idea if anyone else has started it but know that artificial waves are hard to tackle.
Within seconds of their first try Ali loses balance and falls off her board. They seem to be doing better on their second try when the surfers walking in distract Ali.
Adam and Bethany get their first try on the wave simulator but Adam has a hard time balancing.
Ali and Kym take another try at the wave but only last 15 seconds this time. They decide to stay and hope that Adam will fall again. But Adam does fine and they complete the two minutes like…professional surfers. The cyclists quickly dress and run out to try and catch up with the other teams.
Road Block
At the Road Block the teams must walk across a tightrope that is suspended 600 feet over Singapore at the Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Brooke and Maya volunteer to do the high wire. Maya actually has fun on the high wire but Brooke is pretty scared.
Seeing Maya doing such a good job gave Brooke the drive to get it done in one try. Because according to her a scientist just could not beat a pro wrestler.
While walking the high wire, Jim loses his balance and slips off while Misti watches in horror. He gets reeled back in and has to try again. His second try is much better and gets the clue.
After leaving the fast forward, Kym takes one for the team and does the high wire.
Detour
In “Chili Crabs” the teams must crack and collect two pounds of crab. In “China Cups” the teams must travel to the Hong San See Temple and experience a traditional Asian cupping session.
The scientists decide to go the cupping session and see the wrestlers on their way out, they quickly point in the general direction of the clue. The wrestlers walk right by the guy with the clue as they complain about Maya and Amy.
At first, Amy and Maya think the massage will be awesome. Until things get real with the deep tissue massage. Meanwhile the masseuse is cracking up at Maya screaming in pain.
The wrestlers finally figure out that the guy walking around with a giant sign on his back has the clue. They’re still mad at Amy and Maya as they head to the cupping session. They arrive to find the girls screaming and Amy ready to tap out but Brooke thinks that the massage is lovely. But once the exfoliating starts the wrestlers realize why Amy was crying.
The dentists decide to head for the crab challenge thinking it will be much easier. The most painful part of the crab cracking is how hot they are when they come out of the pan. About half way through they start getting really annoyed with the band playing right behind them.
The cyclists decide to go for the china cupping and find it really intense but don’t want to leave. What they don’t know is that they’re in last place.
Double U-Turn
Amy and Maya arrive at the U-turn first and pick the surfers, thinking that the wrestlers will arrive after them and do the cyclists. But when the wrestlers get there they don’t U-turn anyone.
Lion’s Den
The teams must look at five lion monuments around the city to find the next clue. The scientists and wrestlers arrive at the first monument at the same time and the girls are pissed that Robbie didn’t U-turn the cyclists like he said he would. Amy and Maya try to convince the wrestlers to go back and do the U-turn to no avail (Duh).
Robbie and Brook find the clue for the pit stop but don’t tell the scientists where it is. The scientists foolishly believe them and don’t even check the monument that the wrestlers came out of.
The dentists find the clue for the pit stop pretty easily. The cyclists make a guess that the clue will be at the farthest lion and head there first. The scientists check all the other monument’s before realizing that the wrestlers lied to them and have to head back.
The scientists and cyclists get the clue for the pit stop right after one another.
Pit Stop
Adam and Bethany are the first to arrive at Fullerton Pavilion, the pit stop for the ninth leg of the race. They win a trip to Bali along with first place.
2nd place: Brook and Robbie
3rd place: Misti and Jim
4th place: Amy and Maya
Kym and Ali come in last place and are sadly eliminated from the race.
