The film adaptation of the young adult alien-apocalypse novel The 5th Wave has cast two rising stars as its male leads.

Jurassic World‘s Nick Robinson has been cast in Sony’s adaptation of The 5th Wave, The Hollywood Reporter announced today. Robinson will play Ben Parish, nicknamed “Zombie,” a teenager who becomes a brutal killer in the wake of the devastating alien invasion.

Robinson joins actress Chloe Moretz, who is headlining The 5th Wave as 16-year-old invasion survivor Cassie. In the years before the alien apocalypse, Cassie nursed a powerful crush on Ben, but the concussive waves of the invasion have changed and hardened them both.

Sony has also cast newcomer Alex Roe as Evan Walker, another teen survivor who crosses paths with Cassie in the devastated landscape. Evan and Cassie’s meeting – and the secrets he keeps – provide a major kick in the novel’s second half.

Chloe Moretz is making a name for herself in the young adult adaptation sphere. The actress also stars in Gail Forman’s If I Stay, which will be released in August.

The 5th Wave will be directed by J Blakeson, with the screenplay adapted by Susannah Grant. Filming is rumored to begin in the Fall.

Sony reportedly has high hopes for The 5th Wave, which is based on the bestselling novel by Rick Yancey. The dense, moody, and popular book, the first installment in a trilogy, focuses on Cassie’s search for her missing little brother as she tries to survive in a world where most of humanity has died – and those who remain may not necessarily be trustworthy.

The second book in the trilogy, titled The Infinite Sea, will be released on September 16.
