The 2021 Grammys won’t be going forward as planned later on this month.

According to Variety, The 63rd annual Grammy Awards have officially been postponed.

Per a source close to the project, the awards ceremony, which (initially set to air on Sunday, January 31 on CBS), CBS and the Recording Academy have not yet picked a new date for this year’s show. The same source says that it’s possible that the Grammys might find a new air date sometime in March.

Though neither the Recording Academy nor CBS have released more details with regards to the postponement, word that the ceremony has been pushed back likely won’t come as much of a surprise.

Given the ongoing pandemic, as well as recent rises in numbers across the nation, figuring out how to safely host the awards has been something of a big hurdle for those involved.

Though it seems as though the Recording Academy is still hellbent on making some sort of in-person live event work (albeit with a limited audience), it’ll be interesting to see if they scrap that idea and opt for a virtual ceremony instead.

The 2021 Grammys has already announced their nominees which, this year, finds Beyonce reigning supreme. Queen Bey raked in a whopping nine nods, securing her title as the most nominated female artist in Grammy history (she has 79 nominations and counting to date). Taylor Swift, Due Lipa, and Roddy Ricch trail behind Beyonce with six nods a piece.

Hosting duties will fall to the Daily Show’ Trevor Noah, whose hosting announcement came back on November 24, 2020— the same day we got the Grammy nominations.
