In The 100 season 4, the characters will move in different directions to save the world. Find out what Jason Rothenberg could tease at San Diego Comic-Con 2016!

One of the greatest moments in The 100 season 3 was when the delinquents came back together to save Raven, and Monty told Octavia she was “One of the 100.”

By the season finale they were all still together, working towards a common goal — and we can all agree that The 100 is best when the cast are all together!

But as much as we’d like season 4 to be one long joyride in the jeep of happiness, the new threat will incite the characters to split up in order to best tackle their new problem.

In The 100 season 3 finale, ALIE told Clarke that the nuclear plant meltdowns would slowly drown the Earth in radiation. They’ve got six months to figure out either how to stop the meltdowns, or find a secure place to shelter.

But who will go down which path? That is something Jason Rothenberg and the writers have spent a lot of time trying to work out.

At San Diego Comic-Con, Rothenberg admitted to Hypable that season 3 really “tested the limits” of how much they could push people apart, insinuating that this won’t happen as much in season 4.

At the end of the day, he assures us that, “this show is ultimately about the delinquents — which isn’t what I call them, but I gather that’s what people call them, which I think is definitely appropriate.”

On the other hand, “they can’t just all move in one direction together and handle it one at a time. There’s definitely a ‘We’ve gotta divide and conquer and figure out the best way to solve this thing,'” says Rothenberg, adding that there “may not be” a solution to the problem at all.

“Generally our M.O. is we say we’re gonna do something and we do it, there’s no 11th hour save, so I feel like that’s probably something that people can anticipate,” Rothenberg teases.

Ultimately, he says, “that’s a long way of me saying that there will be a fracturing — but we’re gonna pay a lot of attention to who’s on what mission … and it’s gonna take a while.”

It sounds like whichever direction the characters go in, most of them will still be on the same mission throughout the season, working together even if not physically in the same place. That’s very reminiscent of season 2, where we saw the characters check in with each other every couple of episodes — and since we all know how great The 100‘s reunion scenes are, this sounds like a great balance.
