We’re already eight episodes into The 100 season 4, can you believe it? While we wait for the mid-season hiatus to end, let’s look ahead to the remaining five episodes.

Controversial opinion here, but I’m actually a little relieved that there’s a month-long hiatus in between The 100 episodes 8 and 9, because season 4 has been going by so fast I’ve hardly had time to enjoy it!

With last week’s episode “God Complex” leaving all our characters in a relatively okay place — Clarke took the Nightblood serum, Bellamy had a drink and Jaha found the Second Dawn bunker — we can take a breather and really build up excitement for the final five (wink wink) episodes of the season.

The ninth episode, “DNR,” airs April 26, which means that there’s another two weeks of The 100-less Wednesdays, but plenty of information to keep the speculation engines running.

To make it easier, I’ve tried to collect all the big info about The 100 season 4 in one place, and will try adding to the article as we learn more.

As this is a compilation of the information that has been released in promotional materials, interviews and on social media, the article naturally contains spoilers as well as speculation.

‘The 100’ season 4, episode 9 ‘DNR’ — airing April 26

CLARKE STRUGGLES TO KEEP THE PEACE – Clarke (Eliza Taylor) struggles to keep the peace after word of Jaha’s (Isaiah Washington) discovery spreads.

(Note: Part of The CW episode description for this one appears to refer to the plot of 408, so I’ve left it out until we know for sure.)

The first episode coming up after the hiatus is titled “DNR,” most likely an acronym of the medical term “do not resuscitate.”

This episode is written by Miranda Kwok, who joined the series this year and is also part of the season 5 writers’ room. It is directed by Mairzee Almas, who previously directed “The Calm,” “Rubicon,” and “Wanheda, Part 2.”

Based on the promo for the episode we know that Jasper, Harper and a number of other Arkadians (including Bellamy’s fling Bree, though we don’t know if Bellamy is with them) don’t want to go to the Polis bunker, and lock themselves in a room in Arkadia.

Monty is left on the outside trying to convince them to fight for their lives rather than accept the imminent death that awaits them if they stay.

The promotional images released further reveal that Clarke, Abby and Roan have gone to Polis, leaving Raven, Murphy and Emori at Becca’s lab. Jackson and Miller’s locations are TBD.

Raven appears to be considering the rocket again, and is joined in the lab by none other than Becca (Erica Cerra) herself:

Unless the fans’ cryo-sleep conspiracy theories are true, Becca is probably a vision caused by the remnants of the ALIE code still in Raven’s head.

But why Becca is showing up now, what she’s going to reveal to Raven, and what this means for Raven’s mental state remains to be seen.

In Polis we see Abby, Clarke and Roan meet up with Indra, Gaia, the ambassadors and/or other Grounder clan leaders:

Although Trikru and Azgeda are basically at open war, it would appear that Roan and Indra are not outright fighting each other in this episode, but rather having a civil meeting in the throne room.

Whatever agreement is reached here likely has to do with who gets to ride out the radiation in the Second Dawn bunker that Jaha, Kane and Monty discovered in “God Complex.” Which appears to lead into the next episode…

‘The 100’ season 4, episode 10 ‘Die All, Die Merrily’ — airing May 3

OCTAVIA FIGHTS FOR SURVIVAL — Octavia (Marie Avgeropoulos) fights in the final battle for her people’s survival, but not everyone is willing to play fair. Eliza Taylor, Bob Morley, Paige Turco, Devon Bostick, Lindsey Morgan, Christopher Larkin, Richard Harmon, Zach McGowan, Isaiah Washington and Henry Ian Cusick also star.

“Die All, Die Merrily” — a wonderfully irreverent title — is helmed by The 100‘s resident director Dean White and written by executive producers Aaron Ginsburg and Wade McIntyre.

The pair are long-time The 100 writing partners and previously co-wrote “Reapercussions,” “Rubicon,” Blood Must Have Blood, Part 1,” “Wanheda, Part 2,” and “Perverse Instantiation, Part 1.”

This appears to be the episode that Marie Avgeropoulos (Octavia) described as her favorite of the season in a Collider interview:

“There is an episode that’s very Octavia-driven, and she partakes in an incredible battle. It was my favorite one, this season, to film, and I can’t wait until everybody sees it.”

It seems like this is also the episode in which we’ll see her and Bellamy come back together in a big way, with Avgeropoulos saying, “Bellamy really steps up for Octavia and they come together almost as an alliance to really conquer a challenging situation when a huge battle ensues.”

My best guess is that the big battle is to determine which clans get spaces in the Second Dawn bunker, and that Octavia is representing Team Skaikru. How it ends remains to be seen, but Avgeropoulos did also say that, “[Octavia]’s work becomes how to unite the clans to stop war.” Unite being the key word here.

‘The 100’ season 4, episode 11 ‘The Other Side’ — airing May 10

This episode is especially highly anticipated by the fans because it marks Henry Ian Cusick (Kane)’s directorial debut on The 100. It’s written by Shawna Benson and Julie Benson, who joined the series last year and also co-wrote “Join or Die.”

The title could be a reference to Jasper’s repeated quote from seasons 1 and 3, “see you on the other side.” This, coupled with the fact that there is a featurette on the season 4 DVD set titled “Jasper’s Journey,” has fans a little worried about the character’s fate.

After suffering from PTSD and depression in season 3 and being ripped out of the City of Light in the finale, Jasper almost killed himself in the season 4 premiere, and was only deterred from doing so when he found out that the world was ending anyway.

In the promo for “DNR” we see him telling Monty that surviving inside Cadogan’s bunker wouldn’t be living at all, and if he’s given the choice between being locked away or choosing death on his own terms, all signs point to him choosing the latter.

Whether or not that happens in this episode, or at all, is of course pure speculation.

Also appearing are Emori, Miller and Ryan William MacDonald as ‘Flame Keeper Scout,’ with Alex Pangburn returning as Hayes. IMDb also marks this episode as the last appearance of Riley (Ben Sullivan).

‘The 100’ season 4, episode 12 ‘The Chosen’ — airing May 17

Although no writer or director has been officially confirmed, this tweet seems to indicate that Alex Kalymnios is directing, from a script by Aaron Ginsburg (and possibly also Wade McIntyre):

(Thanks to Jess on Twitter for the tip!)

Beyond that, all we can really do with the absence of anything resembling concrete information is speculate about the title, which seems like a sly Buffy reference at first glance, but is likely referring to whomever has been ‘chosen’ for the Second Dawn bunker.

This could be the ones who come out on top of the big fight in “Die All, Die Merrily,” or it could be another constellation of characters completely, as plot moves so quickly on The 100 and a lot can change in just a few episodes.

The title could also be referring to a more divine ‘chosen,’ perhaps the Nightbloods or Cadogan’s original 12th Seal holders. Or, of course, Vampire Slayers. It really could be anything.

Guest stars listed on IMDb (which is sometimes accurate and sometimes not) are Alika Autran as Sonya Hassler — a very modern-sounding name, perhaps indicating a flashback? — Yvonne Chapman as ‘Pei’s daughter,’ and Cole Vigue as Hardy, whom we first saw in “We Will Rise” and who will also show up in episode 9 or 10. Emori, Harper and Miller are also set to appear.

‘The 100’ season 4, episode 13 ‘Praimfaya’ — airing May 24

For the first time in The 100‘s run, the season finale is not a two-parter. Instead, “Praimfaya” (the Trigedasleng word for “prime fire,” a.k.a. the nuclear apocalypse) is a one-hour, standalone episode, insofar as any episode of the show can truly be considered standalone.

While it hasn’t been confirmed, it seems reasonable to assume that “Praimfaya” is written by showrunner Jason Rothenberg, as he has written the premiere and finale of every season so far.

Based on the title (and the fact that this is the season finale), this is likely the episode in which the radiation storms finally reach North America.

This is when we find out who does and does not find a safe place to ride out the second apocalypse, which Raven claimed in an early episode would make the ground uninhabitable for five years. Aside from the main characters, Emori, Harper, Miller and Echo are set to appear.

Pre-season interviews indicated that many characters would die this year, meaning that there probably won’t be many survivors heading into season 5 — though hopefully we aren’t losing too many main characters!

Through interviews with Rothenberg and star Bob Morley, we’ve learned that the finale “keys up season 5 in a big way,” and that fans would not have been satisfied if this had been the final season (luckily we now know it won’t be!).

What we know about ‘The 100’ season 5

The 100 season 5 will premiere in early 2018, and the writers started breaking the story this week.

If Jason Rothenberg’s new CW drama Searchers is picked up to series, someone else (such as executive producer Aaron Ginsburg) would take over some of the showrunner responsibilities for The 100.

Returning writers include Shawna Benson, Julie Benson, Justine Gillmer, Charmaine DeGraté and Miranda Kwok. Veteran sci-fi writer Jeff Vlaming (Battlestar Galactica, The X-Files, Fringe, Xena) is also joining the staff. Kim Shumway, who’s been a writer and producer since season 1, has chosen not to return for season 5.

It has been speculated that season 5 might include a time jump, if we are to believe that it truly takes (up to) five years before the ground becomes survivable again. We won’t know until we see the episode though — so stay tuned, and watch The 100 when it returns Wednesday, April 26!
