In The 100 season 3, the Ice Nation was set up as a terrifying enemy. But now, King Roan might be the only ally left to Clarke and the delinquents.

This Thursday, we’re in for the first half of The 100‘s third season finale. It’s been a rocky ride, as our heroes have slowly spiraled into despair (the seventh circle of Hell, you might call it).

Over the course of the season, all the delinquents’ friends and allies have been taken away one by one — either they have been killed, like Lexa and Lincoln, or they have fallen into ALIE’s mind-web… like pretty much everyone else.

At this point, the only (allegedly) non-chipped characters are Clarke, Bellamy, Octavia, Jasper (does anyone else think they chipped him on the oil rig?!), Monty, Harper, Miller, and Bryan. In Polis, the unlikely dream-team of Murphy, Pike and Indra are the only ones who’ve managed to elude ALIE’s grip.

Luna, brilliant as she was, flat-out refused to take the Commander chip and help the delinquents defeat ALIE. It would appear that our heroes are on their own — but not so fast!

This sneak peek for “Perverse Instantiation, Part 1” shows none other than King Roan (Zach McGowan) joining the delinquents, quite against his will:

Evidently, the A-team captured Roan, and Clarke declares him “their way into Polis.”

In the cell, Bellamy and Roan bond over having shot each other (boyz will be boyz, eh gang?), and then their new plan becomes clear: As Ontari is the only other known Nightblood besides Luna, they must get her to take the Commander chip. This serves the dual purpose of activating ALIE 2, and legitimizing the Ice Nation-born Commander.

The question of course is why Ontari taking the Commander chip now would be any better than Luna taking it after already ingesting ALIE, which we were specifically told in “Red Sky At Morning” was a bad thing. Maybe the delinquents don’t know that Ontari is chipped — or maybe they simply don’t care anymore, having run out of options.

As the promo pictures for “Perverse Instantiation, Part 1” show, Roan does indeed get Clarke (gagged and bound, as is their habit) into Polis. Whether their plan will succeed from there is anyone’s guess.

But wouldn’t it be irony at its finest if the once so fear-inducing Ice Nation ends up being what defeats ALIE?

‘The 100’ season 3, episode 15 ‘Perverse Instantiation, Part 1’ airs Thursday at 9/8c on The CW, watch it live!
