Day 21 is the second book in Kass Morgan’s dystopian series The Hundred, and it continues to follow the lives of those sent to Earth and those still living in space.

The 100: Day 21 further explores the lives of Clarke, Wells, Bellamy, and Glass as they struggle with their secrets and the secrets of others.

When we last left our main characters, we had just learned that they were not the only ones living on Earth. What they once thought was a planet completely void of life, actually housed some Earthborns. These Earthborn, however, didn’t have the newcomers’ interests at heart, and had attacked their camp and stolen Bellamy’s sister, Octavia.

But the Earthborn aren’t the only problem our heroes have to deal with. Wells struggles with being the impromptu leader of their group, while Clarke finds a surprising item in the woods that leaves her with more questions than answers. Bellamy continues his frantic search for his sister, while Glass must decide how far she’s willing to go to stay alive.

‘Day 21’ review

Day 21 continues to weave an intricate story where one seemingly unimportant action affects each main character in varying degrees. The relationships between Wells, Bellamy, Clarke, and Glass grow more and more intertwined, making it both harder to keep secrets from each other and harder to stay out of each other’s lives, even when that’s all they want to do.

The narrative continues to surprise at every turn, with revelations that have the potential to change everything, both for those on Earth, and those still up in space. And while the threat of the Earthborn certainly takes center stage in this installment of the series, threats new and old continue to wreak havoc with everyone’s lives.

As we see more of Earth, we learn that it is not as recognizable as we had hoped it would be. While Bellamy, Wells, and Clarke are able to scrape by with their minimal knowledge of history and the planet’s past, it is blatantly obvious to us just how much Earth has changed. And unfortunately for our favorite characters, it looks like even more change is heading their way.

The 100: Day 21 by Kass Morgan debuts on September 16. You can add it to your Goodreads list, or purchase it from Amazon or IndieBound.
