A song as goofy and fun as “Everything Is Awesome” from The LEGO Movie deserves an equally great performance at the Oscars, and the event’s organizers are delivering.
Oscar producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced today that Tegan and Sara and The Lonely Island (made up of Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) will perform “Everything Is Awesome” at the 2015 Oscars later this month.
“Tegan and Sara and The Lonely Island?…..Everything Is Awesome, indeed. This is certainly an ‘Only on the Oscars’ moment,” says Zadan and Meron in a statement.
“Everything Is Awesome” is one of five songs nominated in the Original Song category at the 2015 Oscars. The other nominees are “Glory” from Selma, “Grateful” from Beyond the Lights, “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” from Glen Campbell…I’ll Be Me and “Lost Stars” from Begin Again.
Many were up in arms when The LEGO Movie was snubbed in the Best Animated Feature Film category. Now, fans can at least appreciate that it will get its time in the spotlight thanks to a fun live performance!
Earlier this week Zadan and Meron announced that Jack Black will be performing during the Oscars in a mystery capacity. They also announced that Oscars host Neil Patrick Harris will be performing an original song by the Frozen songwriters.
The 2015 Oscars will be broadcast live Sunday, February 22 on ABC.
