While Megan Fox and Will Arnett are headed back to the set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for reshoots, Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub will be replacing the actors who voiced Leonardo and Splinter.

In some surprising news, Deadline reports Knoxville and Shalhoub will replace the actors who donned the turtle suits on the set of TMNT and voice the characters Leonardo and Splinter. It’s unknown if the rest of the turtles will be replaced by voice actors, but it has to be a blow to the actors who spent so much time doing motion capture for the characters.

We recently got our first trailer for the film, which actually looked fairly good despite fans being critical of director Michael Bay being the film’s producer. But now that Megan Fox and Will Arnett are heading back for reshoots, and characters are having their voices entirely changed, the studio must be a bit worried.

The roles were motion captured on set with Pete Ploszek as Leonardo and Danny Woodburn as Splinter, but apparently the studio had always intended to cast different actors for the voices of the characters. It looks like we may see everyone’s voice change, but Michelangelo actually speaks in the trailer, so we’re unsure if he’ll be recast or not.

What do you think about Knoxville voicing Leonardo and Shalhoub voicing Splinter? Is the studio trying to fix the film’s problems a little too late?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will be released August 8, 2014. Check out the film’s trailer and synopsis below:
