How’s this for a cool fact? Dylan O’Brien, who plays Stiles on the modern adaptation of Teen Wolf, has met Jerry Levine – the guy who played Stiles in the original motion picture, which starred Michael J. Fox!
In an interview with Crave Online, O’Brien was asked if he had ever heard from the original Stiles. He said that he hadn’t, but – because of a “whirlwind of coincidence” – he actually ended up meeting him a couple of years ago.
It was right when he was wrapping up the movie The First Time, which is out in select theatres now. His co-star, Britt Robertson, was having a Life Unexpected reunion party. Since Levine used to direct some of the episodes, he had been invited. Robertson called O’Brien up and told him he had to come to the party straightaway.
“She was like, ‘Dude, the original Stiles is going to be at this barbecue,’” O’Brien said. “’You have to come meet him.’ So I went and I met him but that was the only time.”
Talk about being lucky!
But what did they talk about? Not much, it seems. The show had only been on air for about a month, so it wasn’t quite as popular as it is now. “He had no idea that it was even being made,” said O’Brien. “But he was perfectly nice. He was like, ‘No way, yeah, okay, new Stiles, old Stiles, hey, yeah!’”
Well, we’ll take it! We think it’s great that O’Brien got to meet the original Stiles, even though Levine didn’t know about the remake. We also know that O’Brien purposely didn’t research the original character because he wanted this newer version to be seen as a different entity, instead of a recreation of the original.
