Teen Wolf does a great job of incorporating some stellar songs into the soundtrack, and today we picked our 10 favorites to present to you.

It’s Teen Wolf Takeover month on Hypable.com, and today’s article examines the music of the show. Read all of our TWT articles here and submit your own!

With nearly 30 episodes under our belts and countless scenes, it was no easy task choosing just 10 songs. Music Supervisor Laura Webb has a talent for picking exactly the right song for any scene, and that definitely didn’t make our job any easier! But Hypable writers Brook Wentz and Karen Rought jumped right in, and are here to tell you their five favorite songs each, which scenes they’re from, and why they love them.

Brook’s Picks

‘Help Me Close My Eyes’ by Those Dancing Days

Season 1, Episode 10: Allison dreams of Scott and looks for her necklace.

This is the sixth most played song on my iPod, so to say that I like this tune is an understatement. The sultry rhythmic tone meshes so perfectly with Allison’s dream induced haze I almost want to scream at Laura Webb’s genius. After discovering the band through the show, I learned that Those Dancing Days have actually broken up since the release of this song in 2011. But the fact that it stayed around long enough to make it onto Teen Wolf shows just how addictive it is.

‘Black Sheep’ by Gin Wigmore

Season 2, Episode 2: Lydia returns to school.

Teen Wolf does a great job of giving us popular tracks before they become popular. Gin Wigmore’s “Black Sheep” is a perfect example of that. I’d heard of the musician in some of the lesser known circles, but shortly after the song premiered on the show, “Black Sheep” started popping up on the main stream. Not to mention that Lydia Martin’s return to school needed something fierce with some serious attitude. This song fits the bill perfectly.

‘Like Wolves’ by David Condos

Season 2, Episode 2: Derek and Stiles come up with a plan to distract the officer.

This is the song that immediately triggers thoughts of Stiles and Derek in my head. It’s slightly gravelly but still a bit symphonic in places. It’s the perfect backdrop to the two guys getting into trouble and plotting out all kinds of terrible plans. A little wicked but still incredibly catchy, and that is exactly what we want and expect from our Teen Wolf soundtrack.

‘Addicted’ by Morgan Page feat. Greg Laswell

Season 2, Episode 8: Allison kisses Scott then leaves.

If you’ve ever been in love, then this is the song for you. Which means it’s pretty much a song for anyone with a heartbeat. On the show, it highlights the kiss between Scott and Allison so, so well. Music supervisors around the world need to take note. The already beautifully constructed shot is lifted to another level with this song. Plus, it doesn’t hurt that it’s also INCREDIBLY catchy and will be stuck in your head for ages after you hear it.

‘Not Giving In’ by Rudimental feat. John Newman and Alex Clare

Season 3, Episode 1: Scott goes to get a tattoo.

This song basically demanded that I fall in love with it. One morning, I woke up with the hook floating around in my head, and before I knew it, it had been played 20 times in one day. We don’t often get a lot of uplifting music on Teen Wolf because of the nature of the show, so it’s nice to see Scott’s more positive outlook at the beginning of season 3 taken advantage of. It sets the stage for how he’s starting the new school year. Plus, it’s still just really fun to belt out and dance to.

Karen’s Picks

‘Bad Karma’ by Ida Maria

Season 1, Episode 8: Lydia and Scott make-out while Scott is under the effects of the full moon.

If this song doesn’t make you want to rock out on your air guitar, nothing will. Teen Wolf not only does a great job of picking music that perfectly fits the tone of the scene, but they also choose songs with lyrics that are appropriate for what’s happening on screen. “Bad Karma” was a perfect fit, ramping up right as Lydia makes her move, and cutting out on Scott as he lies to Stiles.

‘Kill of the Night’ by Gin Wigmore

Season 2, Episode 1: Scott and Allison make-out in Allison’s room.

It’s no mistake that Gin Wigmore is on both my list and Brook’s. She’s an incredible artist with a standout voice, and once again the lyrics fit the scene with scary precision. We see Allison and Scott going against her parent’s wishes and seeing each other, and the passion that lingers between them is highlighted even more by the choice in music.

‘Haven’t Had Enough’ by Mariana’s Trench

Season 2, Episode 5: Erica makes a move on Scott during chemistry class.

Season 2 gave us Erica, the girl that we all loved to hate, then grew to love. This is a fun song the underscores Erica’s teasing of Scott. She puts the move on him, telling him she’s exactly his type, but Scott won’t have any of that. The song is upbeat and fun, which is in opposition to what we see on screen, yet it somehow works so well, and that is a testament to the whole creative team behind Teen Wolf.

‘The Argument’ by Aidan Hawken

Season 2, Episode 12: Allison breaks up with Scott in her bedroom.

From the rest of my list, you can tell that slow songs aren’t really my thing. “The Argument” by Aidan Hawken is an exception. It’s beautifully smooth and quiet, and is the perfect companion to the scene where Allison tells Scott she has to break up with him. Scott understands and tells her they’ll be together some day. “There’s no such thing as fate,” she states. “There’s no such thing as werewolves,” he replies.

‘High on a Wire’ by The Black Box Revelation

Season 3, Episode 2: Peter makes an entrance.

Not that we needed a song to tell us how awesome Sassy Uncle Peter is, but this song is the perfect match for him. The camera focuses on his boots as the door opens, and we’re just left listening to the great beats of the music. Ian Bohen plays Peter magnificently, and “High on a Wire” elevates his supreme badassery to a whole other level.
