Teen Wolf has officially ended after 100 episodes, but there’s hope on the horizon for fans who don’t want the story to be over just yet.

Teen Wolf season 6, episode 20, “The Wolves of War,” ended the series, but creator Jeff Davis definitely left the door open for a continuation. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter revealed back in July that they’re already thinking of multiple ways to keep Teen Wolf alive, which includes a spinoff and a podcast.

The spinoff would turn Teen Wolf into a sort of anthology, where we would likely see a whole new set of characters in a completely different setting, though they’d never say no if some of the original actors wanted to return.

In fact, following the finale, Davis told The Wrap, “It’s so hard for me to see a Teen Wolf revival without Tyler Posey. The idea I could see happening is Tyler as the Professor X character, and he brings in a whole new crew of werewolves and teenagers and they’re his new pack under his tutelage.”

The podcast, on the other hand, would be used to continue the current narrative. It’s unclear if this means the original actors would return to voice their characters. On the one hand, it would be much less time consuming for the cast, but on the other, it may be cheaper and more convenient for MTV to hire voice actors and turn the podcast into its own entity.

Television series that either ended too soon or just in time have found ways to continue the story using a variety of media. Firefly got a followup movie. Both Buffy and Charmed have continued the narrative in the form of comics. Veronica Mars got a couple novels, as well as a movie. There is definitely a precedent here.

The podcast idea surprised (and confused) some fans, as that would definitely be a new venture for the series. That’s not to say it couldn’t work. Davis himself is a fan of podcasts, as he told THR, and he’s got plenty of ideas for the the future:

I would love to see Jackson and Ethan in London as a podcast [laughs]. Have one eight-episode maybe podcast about an adventure they go through there. I could see any sort of spinoff within that world. If Hoechlin would be up for it, [I want to] follow [Derek in a podcast]. You know who would actually be great at it would be Daniel Sharman. If I could convince Daniel Sharman to reprise Isaac, because Daniel has done audio book recordings, I bet he would be great at a podcast.

We also can’t ignore Alec and the thread left hanging by the series’ end. Could a spinoff idea potentially follow him as he grows more confident in his abilities? It seems unlikely, as Davis tells THR:

It was simply this kid Alec played by Ben Wadsworth, who is this outsider, a kid on the run, on his own and Scott says to him, “If you feel like an outsider, if you feel alone, you can be one of us. You can be with us.” That’s the message of the show and big message of this season which was about fear, being a pariah.

Besides, by the time the reboot would be ready to happen, Alec would be much older and already be a steadfast member of the McCall pack. Davis has expressed interest in going elsewhere for a reboot, so the idea of returning to Scott’s story doesn’t make much sense. Alec probably won’t be the one to lead us on a journey through the next installment.

But as Davis has told countless outlets, all this talk of spinoffs and reboots is just conjecture. Yes, they’ve been discussing it, and yes, MTV has committed to doing it, but that doesn’t mean it’ll happen any time soon. It will, most likely, be years before an idea is solidified, a cast and crew is assembled, and shooting or recording can begin.

Until then, at least we have hope. I can’t speak for anyone else in this fandom, but I was certainly pleased with the Teen Wolf series finale. My show is over, and even though I have a Teen Wolf-shaped hole in my heart, I’m happy to have experienced it at all.

Do I want more Teen Wolf in my life? Yes, of course. Do I need it? No, I’m quite satisfied at the moment. But if there comes a time when the story is right and Jeff feels as passionate about another set of characters as he does with Scott and his pack, then I’ll be there, along for the ride.

Are you hoping for more ‘Teen Wolf’?
