The Teen Wolf fandom has cracked the code of that season 6 promo, and now we know mind control is going to play a big part once the show returns.

Okay, rewind. What do we know so far? At the end of season 5, “Tank Guy” walked free after the Dread Doctors were killed. He was a Nazi alpha werewolf from WWII who was being kept alive to help the Doctors achieve immortality. His “alpha juice” also brought the chimeras back to life.

Following him walking off stage left, we got another preview for season 6, which you can see below.

Most of this is old footage of the group, though clever editing and sound effects have made heartwarming scenes downright terrifying. Stiles looks like he’s disappearing, Lydia looks like she’s going insane, and the whole thing just kind of gives me the creeps.

Except guess what? It’s all so much worse than that.

Several Teen Wolf fans thought to reverse the video to see what happens. Not only does this paint a completely new picture with the way the clips are presented, but you can hear that the voices whispering at one point in the promo aren’t just speaking gibberish. They’re whispering, “Mind control.”

We’ve reversed the video ourselves and have uploaded it here for your reference:

Not much else changes here, except now it looks like Stiles is appearing rather than disappearing and it shows him holding Lydia’s hand instead of letting go. These details probably aren’t too significant, but they make me feel a lot better in general.

What doesn’t make me feel awesome is hearing “mind control” whispered over the top of images of Scott, Lydia, and Malia. Is it just a coincidence, or are these three in particular going to be victims of this new threat?

We don’t know where the threat is coming from, whether it’s Tank Guy or someone else, but the shot of the man on the horse is certainly interesting. It gives me a Headless Horseman or Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse vibe, but there’s no evidence to support either one of those claims.

On Thursday we learned Pete Ploszek is joining Teen Wolf season 6 as the handsome and charming Mr. Douglas. You can read about what else we know going into season 6 if you head on over to our exclusive interview with Showrunner Jeff Davis.
