At New York Comic-Con 2015, Friday was a big day for Teen Wolf. The trailer dropped for the next half of season 5, and it gives us a great look at what’s to come.

Teen Wolf trailers are always jam-packed with great stuff — lots of information, plenty of action, and more teases than our hearts can handle. Below, we’re going to break down the biggest moments, adding commentary from the panel, which included Jeff Davis, Tyler Posey, Cody Christian, Dylan Sprayberry, and JR Bourne. Feel free to share your own thoughts in the comments below.

But first, watch the trailer once more:

The opening shot of the trailer shows Lydia submerged in the river where we’ve previously seen Theo’s sister dying as he looked on. Valack tells her this is an important detail, and to find out what he will do, they have to learn what he’s already done. When a hand reaches out of the water to grab her, we can only hope it means she finds the answers she’s looking for.

What is more concerning, however, is the shot of the bloody drill. A closeup of a head with a hole in it proves worrisome, though Valack says it was to amplify her powers. Lydia’s mother probably won’t appreciate that, though, considering she only reluctantly put her daughter in Eichen House to begin with.

But we do have a glimmer of hope. According to Davis, rescuing Lydia will be like Die Hard in Eichen House. She will be the final piece of the puzzle as Scott works to reformulate his pack, though it will ultimately be up to Stiles to get her out.

A big part of this half of Teen Wolf season 5 will be finding out what exactly the beast is, and it seems as though Theo will be trying to align himself with Scott in order to combat the monster. But after everything Theo has done to Scott and his friends, how could he even consider trusting him?

It’s going to take some time for Scott to get his friends back. We first see this with Kira, who is fighting an Oni, presumably to learn more about her abilities and why they’ve started to go haywire. Later in the trailer, she’s fighting a different kind of warrior. While we’re not sure who they are, it looks like it may still be a part of the same journey.

But the most shocking relationship on the line is Stiles and Scott’s. We see a heartbreaking shot of Sheriff Stilinski in the hospital, hooked up to the machines and looking gaunt and weak. But worse than that is Stiles’ reaction to seeing Scott. He throws him up against the wall and down on the floor. His anger is palpable, and though we can’t blame him, it doesn’t make it any easier to witness. Especially after learning from the NYCC panel that Tyler Posey still has a bruise on his back from filming that scene.

And speaking of Scott, we see a wound in the middle of his chest as he yells into a bathroom mirror. This level of anger is definitely unusual for Scott, but considering how much he’s been through in the last 10 episodes, we can’t really blame him.

We also see Liam and Hayden kissing, which is good news for Layden fans. Liam is now aware that Hayden is alive, but we also know she’ll be struggling with her humanity. Their relationship is still moving forward, but what kind of romance can they really have when she is being controlled by Theo?

Though, that’s not the only thing Liam has to worry about. While he may have realized he acted inappropriately in the mid-season finale, Scott is going to find it hard to forgive his beta for attacking him.

Another exciting moment in the trailer is when we see a shot of Deucalion, as played by Gideon Emery. This is certainly a surprising return, as the last time we saw the Demon Wolf was at the end of season 3A, when Derek and Scott sent him packing. Interestingly, though his blindness had been cured, his eyes are once again clouded.

At the panel, we learned that Christian played opposite Emery in a few scenes, which makes us wonder about the connection between Theo and Deuc? Theo previously claimed to have been bitten by Ethan and Aiden’s Alpha, who they then killed in order to be a part of Deucalion’s pack. However, now that we know Theo is actually a chimera, there doesn’t seem to be a clear connection between Theo and Deuc.

The end of the trailer then begins to really up the ante. Tracy attacks Valack while the other chimeras look on, a gooey creature emerges from a bathtub, and Scott once again has a wound in the middle of his chest.

But it’s all going to be okay — Chris Argent is back!

And so is the grief beard. Chris will obviously still be in mourning for his daughter, but we can’t wait to see him in action once again. We also learned that another Argent will be coming back, though they gave no hint as to who it could be. The current options on the table are Kate and Gerard, though we’ll never put it past them to bring back someone from the dead.

A few other tidbits from the panel offer exciting insight into the second half of Teen Wolf season 5. Though Davis didn’t say Hoechlin will be coming back, he did mention that he has been casting nets for other actors to return. He also said there’s always room for Peter in Beacon Hills, and that we’ll have an answer as to what happened to him since we last saw him.

Parrish was mentioned briefly, with the panel saying that Lydia and Jordan’s supernatural abilities are connected, which is what has drawn them together. Also of interest? Apparently Chris has some knowledge of hellhounds.

Davis also promised this season will be lighter, getting back to what made us all fall in love with the show in season 1. However, they wanted to see Scott kicking more ass this year, so he will end up becoming one badass Alpha.

And he’ll need to, considering Theo’s ultimate goal will be to become a real werewolf.

Teen Wolf season 5B will return on Tuesday, January 5, at 9:00 p.m. — note the new time and day. It will be the lead-in for MTV’s new show, The Shannara Chronicles.
