Teen Wolf season 5A has finished airing, and the team behind the show is hunkering down to put out 5B. Here are the top seven questions we want answered.

Teen Wolf is known for posing more questions than they answer, and while that certainly lends itself to the mystery and potential longevity of the show, there are some things we just can’t wait to discover.

At the end of season 5A, the Dread Doctors and Theo were still at large, Scott lost his pack, Lydia was on her way to Eichen House, Stiles had to rescue his father, Kira went out of town to work on her problems, and Malia was gearing up for a confrontation with her mother.

And that’s not even the half of it. We learned plenty this season, but in true Teen Wolf fashion, there were more than a fair share of cliffhangers, too.

1. What exactly is Deputy Parrish?

On this season of Teen Wolf, we did find out what to call Parrish. Namely, he’s a Hellhound, tasked with protecting the supernatural world. So far, we know he’s been taking dead chimeras and hiding them away with the Nemeton in order to keep them out of local and national headlines.

The real question here is what’s Parrish’s role? While we’re hard pressed to think of Jordan as a bad guy, his alter ego doesn’t think too much of knocking a few of the good guys around in order to get his job done. Will Parrish ever be able to control his actions while he’s on a mission? Is he being guided by a larger presence, since he is essentially a hunting dog, and if so, are their intentions pure?

2. What is going on with Dr. Valack?

When we last saw Dr. V, his eye had been removed by the Dread Doctors and he had cracked the glass of his Eichen House prison cell using Lydia’s banshee scream. We know from the flash forward in episode 1 that he ends up escaping his cell and meeting up with Lydia again.

But is Valack a good guy? It’s hard to say so when he’s got a drill whirring toward Lydia’s head, but Showrunner Jeff Davis says he might not be as bad as we all originally thought. If he’s not, then what is he after? He’s encountered the Dread Doctors before, and he seems to know an awful lot about the supernatural world, so what is his role in this story?

3. What is under the Dread Doctors’ masks?

We’ve already discussed this topic in depth, but suffice it to say this is still a pretty big question. Of the little bit we’ve seen from under the Dread Doctors’ disguises, we know they’re scarred in a way that suggests they’ve been haphazardly putting themselves back together for years.

We’re hesitant to say we want to see what the Doctors’ faces look like, but we’d be lying if we said we weren’t curious. Are they anyone we know? What made them become the monsters they are today? Is there any humanity left? And how does creating la bête fit in with what we assume is their ultimate goal — their continued existence?

4. Why is Theo so crazy?

We learned a bit about Theo during season 5A. Mainly, he’s completely crazypants. We know that as a child he watched his sister die without doing anything to stop it, he has a violent and controlling relationship with his new parents, and he wants a pack of dark supernatural creatures.

But how did Theo end up the way he did? If he was a psychopath as a child, you’d think there’d be some sort of reason for it. Genetics? A traumatic event? A horrific childhood? We also know we’ll be seeing Theo’s sister again, so perhaps her extended story will lead us to some more answers.

5. Why does the Desert Wolf want to kill Malia?

It was shocking to learn that the Desert Wolf had intended to kill Malia that night of the car crash. Of course, we already knew she was a dangerous woman. Being good at her job meant she had a knack for killing people. But her own daughter?

The Desert Wolf’s insistence on making sure Malia is dead seems to go beyond the rational. Is there something about Malia that makes her special? Considering the Desert Wolf has no emotional connection to her daughter, there must be something else there that would make her want Malia dead so badly.

6. Where’s Derek?

At the end of season 4, Derek sort of walked off into the sunset happy with his lot in life and Scott’s ability to protect Beacon Hills from the supernatural dangers that always seem to be a threat. He certainly left on a high note.

But that doesn’t mean we don’t want to know what’s going on with him. We may or may not be seeing him in 5B, but Braeden is definitely back — as evidenced by her save in the mid-season finale — and we hope she’ll give us a verbal update on Derek at the very least.

7. What is la bête?

French for the beast, the creature created at the end of the mid-season finale must indeed be monstrous. It is the culmination of all the Dread Doctors’ work, and considering we’ve been seeing some pretty strange combinations working their way through Beacon Hills, we can only imagine what parts they threw together to make this thing.

We’ve also heard this phrase before, in reference to the Argent family. La Bête du Gévaudan is a legendary werewolf, bested by the Argent family in 18th Century France. Does that mean the Dread Doctors are recreating this monstrous creature? Or is this something entirely new that they cooked up? Either way, we can only hope this means we’ll get more screen time for the Argent family.
