Teen Wolf has brought back Gerard, and everyone is worried about what he’s up to. Luckily, Jeff Davis gives us a good look at his current goals.
Speaking to EW today, Showrunner Jeff Davis discusses both the Beast and the Dread Doctors. These two baddies might be front and center right now, but there are plenty of other characters making our heroes’ lives difficult, including the Desert Wolf and Theo.
But not a lot of people are talking about Gerard Argent. When we last saw him near the end of Teen Wolf season 3A, he was in a wheelchair, black goo dripping from his nose and mouth. When he returned in last week’s episode, Chris gave him yellow wolfsbane to cure whatever was ailing him.
But now that he’s back to normal (and definitely not trustworthy), what is his endgame? According to Jeff Davis, via EW, “Gerard wants the legacy of his family back — if they can defeat the Beast of Gévaudan again, he believes he’ll restore the good name of the Argents to its legacy. He wants immortality in that sense.”
Immortality certainly sounds like the old Gerard we know and hate, and this idea ties perfectly into this season’s flashback episode, which will bring back Crystal Reed as an Argent ancestor. After finding out he had cancer in season 2, Gerard used both the Kanima and the werewolves to his advantage, wanting The Bite so he could live on, healthy and happy. And he was willing to sacrifice his own family to do it.
The Argents have had it rough these last couple of years, with several of them dying, turning into monsters themselves, or consorting with werewolves. Not exactly what you expect from the renowned hunting family. Of course, we love that they can look past tradition and realize Scott and his friends are the good guys, but not everyone is going to feel that way.
Gerard has certainly always been proud of his family’s legacy, and with La Bête du Gévaudan roaming the Earth once more, it should come as no surprise that the Argent patriarch wants to defeat it for a second time. The question is whether he and Chris will be the ones to bring it down, or if it’ll be someone like Lydia.
