Teen Wolf season 5, episode 20, “Apotheosis,” just finished airing! Who made it out of the season alive?

Teen Wolf season 5 starts the episode off by answering the important question of where Marie-Jeanne’s pike ended up after all these years. It turns out the Dread Doctors kept it close, with one concealing it within his cane. The Argents are now in possession of the weapon, and it’s only a matter of time before they track down The Beast.

Plenty of characters are lost and found again in this episode, with Tracey succumbing to Theo’s claws around the same time we get a glimpse of Mason within Sebastien, his memories teaching the Frenchman how to drive a modern car.

Sebastien needs that car to track down the one remaining Dread Doctor, who is none other than his old friend Marcel. “For you,” Marcel says. “All for you.” Marcel hid Sebastien’s pile of dead bodies in his basement and managed to escape death for centuries all so he could find a way to bring Sebastien back. If that’s not true love, I don’t know what is, though I’m not sure it goes both ways. Marcel tells Sebastien the Argents have the pike and then dies, and it doesn’t seem to affect Sebastien in the slightest.

The next stop on The Beast’s tour of Beacon Hills is to hit of the sheriff’s station. He and Stilinski square off, and it looks like Sebastien might make it out of there without drawing blood, except Deputy Clarke takes matters into her own hands and pulls her gun on him. Sebastien manages to claw down Clarke, slash Lydia across the neck, and kidnap Hayden before he leaves, eventually stabbing her in the stomach as well.

But everything is looking up for Team Scott because Plan A might actually work this time around. Kira inspires him to continue fighting (aw!), even when Liam has nearly given up hope. With a cortisone shot to the neck, Lydia gets back to fighting form, and Stiles runs off to make a delivery to Malia.

The rest of the group heads down to the tunnels, where the Argents have corralled The Beast, with Theo and Deucalion stalking close behind. Theo valiantly tries to steal Sebastien’s power, but he’s just no match. This is perhaps because Deucalion(!) tricked him into thinking Belasko’s talons would kill him rather than help him steal the power. Deuc and Scott have been working together this whole time, and I am incredibly pleased to hear it. It’s good to know Deucalion hasn’t reverted back to his villainous nature for the sake of the story, but instead continues to grow as a person, strengthening his relationship with Scott.

And he’s not the only one Scott has been making secret alliances with. Chris double crosses Gerard when he tosses Scott the pike, and the two men hold each other at gunpoint. Chris made it clear from the beginning that Gerard was a necessary evil, but that he would go so far as to point a gun at his father in defense of Scott is still extremely satisfying.

Speaking of extremely satisfying, we finally get the downfall of the Desert Wolf. She has the run of the house when Stiles bursts in, Scott’s package in hand, tossing him around like he weighs nothing. All three of our heroes get injured in the process, with both Malia and Braeden having been shot and Stiles having a gigantic shard of glass sticking out of his chest. But it’s not enough to take them down. Stiles manages to toss Malia the jar holding Belasko’s claws, and she steals the rest of the Desert Wolf’s power. Braeden knocks her out with the butt of her gun.

None of that compares to what’s happening in the tunnels, however. Sebastien quickly gains the upper hand, sinking his claws into the back of Scott’s neck. Instantly, he sees memories of Allison, who looks exactly like Marie-Jeanne, and this gives Lydia enough time to find them and scream Mason’s name. The two separate, and Scott throws the pike to end The Beast.

At this point, Kira has returned from her mission in the desert, and she passes along a message to Theo from the Skinwalkers. “Your sister wants to see you,” she says, and the ground opens up. Theo’s sister claws her way out and drags him down as he screams for mercy. Did anyone cheer? I definitely cheered.

The final moments of the episode are nothing short of uplifting. Gerard is alive, but Chris took the opportunity to shoot him nonetheless. Hayden chooses to become a werewolf, and Scott gives her The Bite. Stiles realizes he loves saving people and wants to go into law enforcement, just like his dad. Lydia and Malia walk to school arm in arm, and Scott says goodbye to Kira as she leaves to train with the Skinwalkers. Stiles is no longer worried about everyone going off in different directions after school ends. “We all seem to find each other anyway,” he says, and tells a surprised Lydia that, in the end, Allison was the one who saved Scott’s life.

But this wouldn’t be Teen Wolf if we didn’t get an ominous hint at what’s to come. The Nazi alpha werewolf who was keeping the Dread Doctors alive has escaped his tank and wandered off. Looks like we know who the Big Bad of season 6 will be…
