Fans of Teen Wolf have been excited about the flashback episode since it was announced, and today we have some more details about what can be expected.

Entertainment Weekly got the scoop on 3×08 this week, promising fans that the episode is going to be just as fantastic as we’re all hoping it will be.

Talking to Executive Producer Jeff Davis, EW asked why the writers decided a flashback episode was necessary. Davis explains by saying he wanted to show a completely different Derek from the mysterious and brooding man we’ve gotten to know during the last two seasons. It’s a chance to show the audience how Derek changed so drastically from his charismatic personality in high school to what he is presently like on the show.

“We’re going to learn about Derek’s past and we’re going to see him as a sophomore in high school and learn more about his relationship with Peter, Laura and his mother as well,” Davis says to EW. “So we’re going to see the Hales at a different time in Beacon Hills. It’s a little darker. It’s going to be a fun flashback episode.”

Plotlines outside of the flashback are going to be restricted, but they will be there. About a third of the episode will be dedicated to current stories, including why werewolves have different colored eyes and a meeting with a Beta named Marco.

However, we will not be meeting Derek’s father in this episode. That’s not to say that we won’t ever meet him, but Davis wanted to highlight the strong females in the Hale family, including Talia, Derek’s mother.

For those of you that are excited for season 3 of Teen Wolf, just know that Davis has got one heck of a season in store for us: “This season has some of our most dramatic weight yet. So there will be a lot of gravity to these episodes.”

Are you disappointed we won’t be meeting Derek’s father in the flashback episode?
