The highly anticipated Teen Wolf season 3 premiere did not disappoint its rabid fans, and the fans turned around and helped the hit MTV show shatter several records.

The premiere of Teen Wolf season 3 debuted Monday night on MTV to much anticipation. Fans watched the show and took to social media, helping to create a frenzy of excitement as “Tattoo” aired and kicked off the next chapter of the show.

According to a press release, the show managed to capture a 2.3 Nielsen rating in the 12-34 age range. The debut for “Tattoo” beat all previous records for the show, and saw a 10% gain over the season 1 premiere, which beat out the ratings for season 2. Additionally, 2.4 million viewers tuned in, making it Monday’s #1 original cable series for that day.

On top of this already great news, and excluding sports programming, Teen Wolf was also the most talked about show across social media. A whopping 20% of all Twitter users talking about television were talking about the Teen Wolf premiere, totaling one million mentions by the time the day was over.

Perhaps even more impressive, the premiere has become the most tweeted about MTV show since the beginning of 2012, excluding the MTV Movie Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards. The latter two shows are gigantic pop culture events, which makes the fact that Teen Wolf is holding steady in third place all the more exciting.
