Teen Wolf‘s executive producer, Jeff Davis, fields more questions ahead of season 3, episode 5 “Frayed.” Here are the 10 most important answers.

Davis once again answered a slew of questions, and we’ve pulled 10 of the most interesting ones from the official Tumblr to offer a little speculation.

thepeacockvampire: the things that dr. deaton was pushing away so much that it became a habit to do with other things – does that have anything to do with his relationship to the hales and possibly the hale fire and will we start to get answers soon?

Davis: yes, very much to do with the hales.

Dr. Deaton’s backstory seems to be slowly unfolding before us, but there is still so much we don’t know. We do know, however, that he is tied to the Hales and has helped them out in the past. Davis’ answer makes us wonder if something bad went down between him and the Hales for Deaton to want to push all of that away.

torrinicolee: i’m wondering if it means something so the tree that was at the end of the credits was also the same tree lydia was drawing in the band room? does it mean anything??

Davis: you are paying attention to the right details.

Clever fans quickly picked up on the drawing Lydia was creating in the band room. It looked eerily similar to the tree that is featured at the end of the credit sequence for season 3. Trees have also been featured heavily in the past, with both the ash and the oak being particularly important.

karatyrell: any upcoming lydia scoop?

Davis: we just finished the final post production work on 306 which is a lydia as main character episode. and it’s one of my favorites.

Season 3, episode 6 is next week’s episode, titled “Motel California.” This is the one that features a scene written by Dylan O’Brien, but also appears to focus on Lydia. Could this one be where we find out what exactly Lydia’s “talent” consists of? (Click here if you want to be a guest host on Not Another Teen Wolf Podcast as we discuss episode 6 after it airs!)

whump-and-angst: scott seems to have a pretty easy time with full moons…where’s the werewolf conflict if the wolves in this verse can learn control so easy?

Davis: that was actually a choice we made. how much do we want to play our wolves as struggling to contain the beast? we did that all first season and i personally felt as though we mined it for all we could.

Some shows consistently stick with the same storyline in various incarnations, but we’re happy to hear the Davis is moving past what most of season 1 was about and venturing into new territory. While the wolves on the show, and Scott in particular, will always struggle with what they are, it’s nice that we can expect fresh plots over the course of season 3 and beyond.

obriens: some authors plan the ending of a story, book, show beforehand. have you given any thought to how you want teen wolf to end?

Davis: as far as a series finale? no plan.

Could this be a good thing or a bad thing? We’re leaning towards good (we’re optimists, what can we say?). With no ending sticking out in Davis’ mind, perhaps that means the show will grow organically for as long as fans are interested. Some shows know the course of the story from the get-go, and an ending is set in stone after a certain number of seasons. We’re glad that isn’t the case with Teen Wolf.

sourwolf–whittemore: hi jeff, i was just wondering how many years has it really been since the fire? cause stiles said 10 years in the pilot then derek said 6 years in the middle of season 1 then derek said 9 years in 3×03. so how many years has it been?

Davis: six. derek’s line in 3×03 was actually “not in years.”

This has been a strong debate since season 3, episode 3 “Fireflies,” when Derek’s line was muddled and fans weren’t sure exactly what was said. We know that Stiles’ line from season 1 was a generalization, and that it actually has been six years. Your canon facts are safe, everyone!

forthewinoswin: will scott and isaac’s relationship change now that they’re living together?

Davis: yes, it will. they will become closer. isaac will be risking his life for scott in tomorrow night’s episode.

This season Isaac and Scott will becoming better friends, to the point that there will be a bit of a “bromance” triangle between the two werewolves and Stiles. Up until the recent episode, it has been obvious that Isaac and Scott are closer, but now we know the real catalyst behind their blossoming relationship: Derek kicking Isaac out, and Isaac subsequently coming to Scott for help.

hellorudeness: will we ever find out why erica was killed?

Davis: yes.

For fans who were upset that Erica was discovered dead and then her story suddenly dropped from the forefront of season 3, it will certainly come as a relief to know why she died — and who killed her! We know that Boyd’s only friend was Erica, and so we’re sure the answer to that question will bring out some drama for Boyd.

tenewolf: what do you think about people hating derek and saying he could’ve and should’ve handled the isaac situation differently????

Davis: i find characters who make mistakes more interesting to write. and to watch. we made a concerted effort, for example, to show a real change in scott from season 1 to now. a naive kid who becomes a thoughtful leader. i’m pretty happy with derek’s arc this season. hope you like it too!

Derek’s treatment of Isaac at the end of season 3, episode 4 was shocking, to say the least. He threw a glass at Isaac’s head, kicking him out of the loft in the middle of a rainstorm. While Derek probably had good intentions behind these actions, many fans were disappointed. As Davis says, however, everyone has an arc, and perhaps Derek’s will grow him into a better person.

welfycat: a polyamorous relationship between scott/allison/isaac would be much more fun than a love triangle, don’t you think!? :d (also, lydia, boyd, and stiles have taken over the world by the end of the season, right?)

Davis: agreed!

Does this really need a comment? We didn’t think so.

What are you most looking forward to in tomorrow night’s season 3, episode 5 ‘Frayed’?
